Prisoners Brutalized In Baghdad Gulag Prison
American Free Press

---Except for guards and prisoners, only the International Red Cross is allowed inside. They are forbidden to describe what they see.

But some of its staff have broken ranks—to tell Amnesty International (AI), the London-based human rights watchdog, of the shocking conditions the 3,000 Iraqi prisoners are held under.

None had been charged with any offense. They are listed as suspected “looters” and “rioters.” Or listed as “loyal to Saddam Hussein.”

Every day more prisoners are crowded into the broiling, dusty compound. Surrounded by 10-foot-high razor wire, they live in tents that are little protection against the blistering sun. They sleep 80 to a tent on wafer-thin mats.

Each prisoner has a long-handled shovel to dig his own latrine. Some are too old or weak to dig the ordered depth of three feet. Others find they have excavated pits already used.

The overpowering stench in this hellhole is suffocating. “Add to sleep deprivation and physical abuse you have highly degrading conditions which are tantamount to torture and gross abuse of human rights,” said Curt Goering, deputy director of AI.---

2. "guilty" of .......
"looting" ? like maybe trying to feed their family or find potable water ?

"loyal to Saddam" ? you mean the ruler we used to support? in a country where your ability to succeed might be greatly enhanced if you were a Baathist ? Gee lets round up all those East Germans who had to join the communist party if they wanted to live in a decent house :eyes:

This is sickening.....i guarantee alot of our troops dont support this Bullshit.

6. Anyone here expect something better?
Bush* has a history of sadistic behavior. The conditions described would appeal to him. I imagine he giggles and dances a bit when told of the suffering going on. The US is lost without a moral compass, all because a few very rich men wanted evern MORE power and wealth. Its an international tragedy.

7. But, we can't leave now.
No way we could just leave these people to seek their own destiny. We have to show them the christian way and appoint a government that suits us. Yup.

8. I see lots of "Jesus is the answer" bumperstickers...if that's true,
can't we just bring home our troops and let the long-haired hippy Messiah fix everything post haste?

9. I did hope for something better
I'm forever disappointed in the lack of compassion on the part of individuals. Bush isn't over there running the camp. I imagine that many American's there are disgusted by conditions and may try to help one on one (see, I can't help being hopeful) The command that has allowed this is most directly to blame right up to Rumsfeld. He knows what's going on.

This source may be spot on but even if only half is true, it's shameful. Sadder still, by the time the *full* story comes out, public attention will be on something else and it will only add gasoline to the fire for those we continue to wrong. And the neorepubs will ask anyone who brings it up "why do you hate America?"

This is national security? This is a repub strength? Brother.
