Salmonella contamination prompts tomato recall
Source: AP

TRACY, Calif. (AP) - A Florida tomato grower is voluntarily recalling its grape tomatoes after a sample tested positive for salmonella.

Six L's Packing Company Inc. said in a statement Monday that no illnesses had been reported in connection to the recall as of April 29.

The Immokalee, Fla.-based company says the recalled product was packed on April 11 under the Cherry Berry lot code DW-H in clam shells or 20-pound cardboard containers. The tomatoes were distributed to California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia, as well as Canada.

The tomatoes also were used in deli salads made by Tracy-based Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. The salads were sold in Albertsons, Raley's, Safeway, Savemart, Sam's Club and Walmart stores across the West and some Midwestern states.

2. I live in Naples and got salmonella poisioning
from eating local tomatoes (Immokalee) 3 years ago. It was not pretty and I almost went blind. I would grow my own, but it's so damned hot here with no rain.

4. Oh oh...
Now they will be pulling ALL of the tomatoes off the shelves. Everytime there's a scare like this, everyone over reacts. I still can't find any Pepcid AC, and the recall was for only one lot number of the tropical fruit flavor. Certain pizza places stopped offering salads on their menus after the lettuce scare (I think it was E-coli - not sure) of a few years ago and have never returned them to the menu. Guess it's a perfect time of year to start growing tomatoes on my front porch! Anyone know where I can find the Topsy-Turvy?

6. Pepcid AC! I found it at Walgreens a few weeks ago.
If you have a Walgreens in your area, try there. I have been looking for it since last August. Funny thing is, now that I have it,
I can eat tomatoes again. Or I could, till now. lol?

5. Thanks..because this sounds like a responsible grower who pulled it before folks got sick...
We need more of these kinds of growers. Everyone can have an "accident" but if they own up to it because they did proper testing before they sent it out to the public for consumption we should buy their stuff.

It's the BIG GUYS (Mass Producers) who send the stuff out and leave it up to the Loose EPA/FDA REGS to let folks get sick and they "write off the loses" that we have to worry about.

So these folks seem like "good guys" for getting ahead and pulling their salmonella tainted product.

Good on Them!
