Bush declines Obama invitation to go to ground zero
Source: MSNBC

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama plans to visit New York City on Thursday to mark the death of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

NBC News reported that Obama invited former President George W. Bush to attend the event but Bush does not plan to attend.

NBC said Bush plans to mark the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 at ground zero in September.

The White House said Obama on Thursday will visit ground zero, the site of al-Qaida's attack on the World Trade Center, and meet with the families of those killed nearly 10 years ago.

20. after seeing the knife job that Obama did on that dumass trump, at the WHCA dinner the other night -
i am more inclined to say "Bravo! Barack; Touche'", than anything else.

if you were that mass-murdering cretin, george w. bouchebag, would you want to go & stand next to the guy who actually did the right thing - after that grandstanding, giggling war criminal whore-son bush, couldn't do anything other than massacre a million civilians in Iraq for 7 years running. and this after all his pompous strutting around with a bullhorn at the WTC ruins in NYC & under his "Mission Accomplished" banner on the carrier.

i really hope that Obama had that in mind - to deliberately show up the asswipe 2nd hand killer dubya, for what he really is - a coward, a failure & the total scumsucking whore to the oilygarchs that he is, instead of a human being. i would really respect Barack for that touch of the upraised finger inside the velvet glove.

29.  As far as I can tell, Obama has been treating Bush as an honorably retired President.
Edited on Wed May-04-11 07:04 AM by No Elephants
How would you explain Obama's giving Bush a call to announce Osama's death before Obama notified the press?

Or, asking Bush to team up with Clinton for Haiti relief?

Or, leaning on Spain not to prosecute Bush for war crimes?

37. yea, i know. i was just drunk enough to hope for a change in the air, when i wrote that. :)
always knew Obama had sold his soul to the PTB, way before he was elected POTUS - when he was first spewed out of the Chicago Dem machine; same machine that spawned the Daleys & Rahm. nothing but snark, or wishful thinking, to believe there'll be meaningful change, without a cataclysmic event - such as revolution. people are too much the supine insect, crawling in the wake of their hive queens, to change meaningfully.

7. So much for the unity thingy
All I've heard from the right it how Obama didn't mention GW in his speech Sunday night or give him any credit.
Why should he, the special ops guys deserve it all and Obama for having the balz to give the go.
If the mission failed, would they want part of the blame to go to Bush ?
And now he invites him to Ground Zero and says he wants to continue to stay out of the spotlight.
I think he's more worried about getting shot at.
So he snubs the president and keeps the division going.
Awful guy.

11. That's ALL?
According to the right, the white house can't keep it's story straight about the raid, which proves they made the whole thing up to deflect from Trump's demand for Obama's transcripts. That's their story, and they're sticking to it.

where they invite you to something that sounds nice and then instead arrest you........( in his case for war crimes!)

8. If you were Bush would you want to
stand next to Obama at that event? It was a nice gesture on Obama's part, but how humiliating for Bush to have to stand there and applaud him. No way Bush has the grace to pull that off.

22. I would want to believe the President would...
give him kudos for his effort. ( hard to say that without vomiting).
I know he would be gracious, but now he'll be even more demonized by the right,
spun in some way that Obama is stealing his thunder.
How moronic are those people ?

24. Of course Obama would be gracious.
But Bush? He'd be expected to speak, never his strong suit, and for what? To acknowledge Obama? After all his Dead or Alive posturing, followed by his dismissal of Osama as unimportant? No. I just can't see it.

The righties will find or manufacture something to try to undermine Obama no matter what. They are panicking now, because of what this will do to Obama's ratings. I'm sure the stories will get crazier by the day.

The first fireman at the ready was too tall to suit: made Precedent Bush look like a small man. Can't have that.

26. Bush declines Obama invite to Ground Zero event
Source: USA Today

Former President George W. Bush will not be joining President Obama during a Thursday event at Ground Zero to mark the death of Osama bin Laden.

Obama had invited his predecessor to a ceremony at the site of 9/11 attacks in New York City.

Bush appreciates the invitation, "but has chosen in his post-presidency to remain largely out of the spotlight," said spokesman David Sherzer.

How many Americans and Iraqis died and suffered-and always will--because Dummya lied about 911?

Not prosecuting the turd is one thing. Honoring him is quite another, and the wrong thing to do.

Political? Self-serving for a future former President? Very. Right? No.

35. An invitation is just that - an invitation not a command performance. Been there, done that - and
resented it - but "had" to go for several reasons.

If Bush wants to decline an invitation - that is his right to do so.
