China tightens internet censorship controls
Source: BBC News

China has set up a new government body to control information on the internet.

The State Internet Information Office will take over responsibility from a number of lower-ranking directorates.

The new set-up will enable the government to keep a tighter grip on the content available to Chinese internet-users inside the country.

There are two kinds of protectionism, one being trade and the other political, both lead to monopolies and create stagnation; which in turn has a corrupting or polluting effect.

The Internet, as commercially used in China is horribly slow, this will end it's usefulness, during the daytime hours, the average download speed is 47K, in the Shanghai area of the country. This is because virtually EVERYTHING goes through the Firewall, being riffled thru by the authorities. When all business closes by 5:00 pm, the speed goes up to 125K, and it about 250K, on the week-ends, so kiss China's IT infra-structure goodbye, along with ANY technological advantage the internet brings. They've gone and shot themselves in the foot, while being egregiously paranoid about someone dissing them, or "Thinking BAD anti-government Thoughts"
