FBI shootout kills suspect in pipe bombing

ORIENTA, Okla. -- FBI agents have been involved in a shootout while serving an arrest warrant for a man out of Jacksonville, Florida. The man opened fire on the agents and is now dead.

They say they do not know why the suspect was in Oklahoma.

The Caucasian man was 30 to 50 years old, 5'6" with a medium build and authorities say he was considered mentally unstable.

Authorities were tracking him in connection with the detonation of a pipe bomb at the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida on May 10, 2010.

Look - even if you kill him before he kills you - they will take you out. The cop has lots of 'friends' who would like to see you dead.

If a cop has a gun on you, drop whatever it is that is in your hands, stick those hands in the air, and do EVERYTHING the cop says.

Well, almost everything. Do not speak other than what is necessary, and do not volunteer information.

And he spent A LOT OF TIME hammering into our heads that the cop who pulls you over expects to see your hands on the wheel when talking to him or her. That way they KNOW you aren't carrying. If you have a weapon in the car, only tell them if the initiate a search. Failure to do so can get you arrested for lying to a cop. Granted, the cutoff time is *usually* when they ask to search your car. The same applies to carrying pot when you have the legal right to do so (I'm in California.)

Cops are trained to watch your hands. If you can give them the impression that whatsoever they do, they can see your hands, you USUALLY don't get shot.

Granted there are always exceptions. Think BART police and Oscar Grant.

But the less they have to worry about you, the less likely they will shoot you. Granted, it is a probability wave, and there are always exceptions.

I think that's how the saying goes. :shrug:

I mean, it's just not natural to track a person for detonation of a pipe bomb at an Islamic Center unless that person is mentally unstable, or thought to be.

Seriously, would you consider your brother or sister mentally unstable if they wanted to bomb a religious center? No matter the denomination?

Doing their best to track down the person who left the pipe bomb at the MLK Parade in Washington, tracking this suspect down for the bombing in Florida, and investigating Massey Energy for possible federal crimes. I was impressed to see that with absolute now leads in the Washington pipe bomb case they are attempting to narrow down where the materials were purchased and such. Especially after the Agent In Charge said this was one of the most destructive devices he's seen in his career. Shrapnel with rat poison on in sounds bad. I'm awaiting for the Massey Investigation to play out, I'm sure the Agents are going to find something, whether the politicians allow it to see the light of day and commence with prosecution is another thing.
