Thanks for nothing: Jilted George Bush angry at Obama's Ground Zero 'victory lap'

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 2:32 PM on 5th May 2011

Former president George Bush is angry at Barack Obama for not giving him or his administration credit in the discovery and killing of Osama Bin Laden, it was reported today.

Bush, who arguably set up the intelligence infrastructure that led to Bin Laden's bloody assassination, was 'rubbed the wrong way' after the President failed to acknowledge
his predecessor in the aftermath of Sunday's kill operation.

The spat comes as the President prepares to tour Ground Zero later today, meeting victim's families in private before laying a wreath at the disaster site.

'Obama gave no credit whatsoever to the intelligence infrastructure the Bush administration set up that is being hailed from the left and right as setting in motion the operation that got Bin Laden.
'It rubbed Bush the wrong way.'

Yes, W you did a great job in getting after bin Laden.

C.I.A. Closes Unit Focused on Capture of bin Laden

By MARK MAZZETTI
Published: July 4, 2006

WASHINGTON, July 3 — The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday.

The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

134. Thank you. Bill Clinton named Osama Public Enemy #1 in 1999, after Osama was indicted for Osama's
role in the 1993 attack on the WTC. We don't know all Clinton may have had the CIA and FBI doing from and after the 1993 attack.

During the transition between the Clinton and Bush 43 administrations, Clinton told Bush Al Q'aeeda was the number 1 threat to the national security of the U.S. (or so Clinton said on TV).

So, no, Bush did not, even arguably, set up the infrastructure that led to killing of Osama.

I didn't understand why Obama invited war criminal Bush, to join him (Obama) at Ground Zero yesterday. Also did not understand why Obama invited Bush, but not Clinton.

63. Exactly, this is all coming from Bush's former advisors and staff

They are upset that THEY aren't getting credit or given their featured part of history. I don't believe any of them when they say that they heard this, or heard that from W.

I give Bush credit for remaining low-key after his presidency. Then again, who wanted to see him? Ground Zero is Obama's moment, and it's one of Bush's few classy moves to let Obama have it alone. Plus, in NYC, W might have been booed.

...and that would have made my decade.

Bush feels Obama ignoring ex-president's role in Osama Bin Laden strike for 'victory lap': source

By Thomas M. Defrank
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF

"WASHINGTON - George W. Bush won't be at Ground Zero with President Obama Thursday in part because he feels his team is getting short shrift in the decade-long manhunt for Osama Bin Laden.

" viewed this as an Obama victory lap," a highly-placed source told the Daily News Wednesday.

Bush's visit to the rubble after the 9/11 attacks was the emotional high point of his presidency, but associates say the invitation to return with his successor was a non-starter.

"He doesn't feel personally snubbed and appreciates the invitation, but Obama's claiming all the credit and a lot of other people deserve some of it," the source added."

Read more of Bush's bullshit at the link, if you can stomach it.

BTW, take a look at the poll too. So far 73% of those answering say credit for the operation belongs to President Obama. And that's in the NY Daily News!

not one Repugniconvict voted for it ... claimed it would cause financial ruin "as far as the eye can see" ... produced a "surplus", and started to pay off the deficit/debt ... Repugs scrambled the spinmeisters to try to make sure some Republican got credit for it (including, so help me God, Gerald Ford!).

But how often did you hear, in the 2008 election cycle, about John McCain's wonderful support of NAFTA??? Not a peep, at least in the "liberally-biased mainstream media" ...

11. Here is a section of Obama's speech on the death of OBL:
"Over the last 10 years, thanks to the tireless and heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals, we've made great strides in that effort. We've disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defence. In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government, which had given bin Laden and Al-Qaeda safe haven and support. And around the globe, we worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of Al-Qaeda terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot.

It seems to me that "Over the last 10 years..." acknowledges that work was done during the previous administration. Guess * just can't stand to not hear his name mentioned.

Personally, I would have loved to hear Obama mention the things * did to NOT find OBL.

I'm just all broken up about his feelings getting hurt. Fuck him.

That could have been YOUR victory lap on YOUR watch, Georgie, but you didn't apply yourself. You could have heeded the warnings and continued Bill Clinton's campaign against Osama bin laden, but you didn't, you could have nailed the SOB at Tora Bora, but you outsourced the work to local warlords instead of using highly-trained, motivated US troops, you likely could have nailed him anytime during your second four years, but you didn't bother.

Tough rocks. Your "gentleman's C" mindset doesn't count.

34. Bush didn't want to get bin Laden.
Just think about it ... capturing or killing Osama in 2001 (or during his years in office) was not in Bush's political interests.

Bin Laden was the bogeyman for justifying the whole "war on terror", the war in Iraq, the Patriot Act, etc.

My conspiracy theory on this at:
http://www.earthside.com/earthside/2011/05/bush-knew-where-bin-laden-was-all-along.html

Bush probably cut a deal with Musharraf to hold bin Laden; Bush may have know where bin Laden was all along.

40. Bush closed the CIA unit tasked with finding Bin Laden*
C.I.A. Closes Unit Focused on Capture of bin Laden

WASHINGTON, July 3 <2006> — The Central Intelligence Agency has closed a unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, intelligence officials confirmed Monday.

The unit, known as Alec Station, was disbanded late last year and its analysts reassigned within the C.I.A. Counterterrorist Center, the officials said.

The decision is a milestone for the agency, which formed the unit before Osama bin Laden became a household name and bolstered its ranks after the Sept. 11 attacks, when President Bush pledged to bring Mr. bin Laden to justice "dead or alive."

The realignment reflects a view that Al Qaeda is no longer as hierarchical as it once was, intelligence officials said, and a growing concern about Qaeda-inspired groups that have begun carrying out attacks independent of Mr. bin Laden and his top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

50. Disgusting........
Not less than a year after 9/11, GWB responded to a reporter's questions about OBL that he didn't know where he was and didn't think much about him. Then, as per this post, the team assigned to searching for him was disbanded.

So Bush has no claim to Obama's success in tracking OBL down and killing him.

But the GOP always wants to take credit for positive things they don't do but want to run away when the things they do turn sour.

because if the bastard would have LISTENED to President Clinton's team before he was inaugurated, or he would have LISTENED to the 8/6/2001 briefing titled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike Within U.S." and then he would have taken action based on those warnings, the buildings that were there when he was inaugurated would be there today.

Somehow though, I'm sorry but I don't quite believe this story. I think Bush and Rove are just partisan through and through, and it isn't what Obama did or did not do but simply that Obama is a Democrat that riles them.

62. Ha! What credit?
For sweeping bin Laden under the rug after the Tora Bora fiasco, then keeping him at large for another 7 years? Obama graciously invited Bush to ground zero, which is more than he deserved. But the contrast would have been staggering so Bush is staying away. Oh, he was there once with a bullhorn all right, posturing away after his administration had ignored the warning signs and dropped the ball, allowing the 9-ll attacks to come off unhindered. Months later he shrugged bin Laden off as someone who was no longer important, marginalized, and someone he didn't think of much. Bush is apparently distressed that another nail has been driven into the coffin of his "legacy".

Then, you started an illegal war with Iraq, which had NOTHING to do with 9/11. THEN, in 2002 (I believe) you claimed that you no longer spent any time thinking about Bin Laden.

But really, everyone was already totally aware of that.

What annoys me the most about this approach the right wing idiots are taking is; they don't express gratitude for finally getting this guy, they play politics as usual, and worse, while whining about President Obama taking a victory lap they actually have the unmitigated gall to suggest that their failure of a president isn't getting credit, thereby attempting to take their own victory lap for failing to get bin Laden!

GET THAT? THEIR GUY COULDN'T GET THE JOB DONE. OUR GUY DID. BUT THEY'RE PISSED THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA IS GETTING CREDIT FOR A JOB WELL DONE EVEN THOUGH HE IS KEEPING WHAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED BY ANY RATIONAL PERSON TO BE A LOW PROFILE, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME THE REPUBLICANS ARE TRYING TO GET UNDESERVED CREDIT FOR THEIR GUY WHO CONTINUALLY FAILED AND ULTIMATELY GAVE UP GETTING BIN LADEN, GOING SO FAR AS TO PUBLICLY ADMIT HE HAD NO DESIRE TO FIND BIN LADEN AND ACTUALLY DISBANDING THE CIA GROUP WHOSE JOB IT WAS TO GET BIN LADEN!

Only from the warped minds of Republicans.

I hope Bush loses what little mind he has or ever had over this. I hope from this day on when the idiot looks in the mirror he sees the face of bin Laden staring back at him. I hope the Republican Party is so demoralized and criticized and castigated for not only this latest ridiculous nonsense but their entire anti-American, anti-U.S. citizen agenda that they never win a majority in any federal, state, or local election ever again.

I know, there are those Americans who are stupid enough to vote for these idiots anyway but I can still dream, can't I?

There is "debate" as to the type of interrogation that lead to the killing of OBL. The early facts say that detainees at GITMO eventually lead to the killing of OBL.

OBL is dead. I'm torn on the overall events, but the evil fuck is dead and I can only moarn those lost in the fight to make that so.

If I had to trade a shutdown of GITMO for the death of OBL.... I would shut down GITMO. Two wrongs don't make a right. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

OBL has caused enough death and torture. It MUST stop. We MUST be the ones that step up and end the KILLING!

132. How would you have done it Georgie?
Land on the deck of an aircraft carrier within sight of shore and strut around with your cod hanging out? Republican double standards. Go f*@k yourselves. You didn't go after Bin Laden because the neo-cons would have had to go through all of the trouble to create another Goldstein.

136. Is UK Daily Mail a Right Wing Publication?
Edited on Fri May-06-11 07:43 AM by SkyDaddy7
Because I read the entire article & it did not have one positive thing to say about Obama...And it repeated over & over the same few negative things it could to make it sound like there were more negative opinions than there really was.

Oh yeah, all the negative coverage was quoting FOX "News"...Is this publication owed by Murdoch?

The comments at the bottom were disgusting!

138. If anyone should complain, it would be President Clinton. Dummya is lucky Obama didn't mention
closing of Alex Station, Iraq, "I don't think about much anymore," "Mission Accomplished" and similar disgraces.

Please see Replies 40 and 134.

For a "Mission Accomplished: photo op. Dumbya's "victory lap" was quite expensive, and was utter bullshit...
