Agents say Sandlin Matthews Smith shot in Oklahoma after he waved a weapon at them as they tried to serve arrest warrant
David Batty and agencies | Thursday May 5

A man wanted in connection with the bombing of a Florida mosque has been shot dead after resisting arrest, the FBI said.

Sandlin Matthews Smith, 46, was shot after he waved a weapon at FBI agents and state law enforcement officers as they tried to serve an arrest warrant on him in northwest Oklahoma.

Jeff Wescott, an FBI special agent in Jacksonville, Florida said Smith had been shot in a field at Glass Mountain State Park near Fairview, Oklahoma.

He added that Smith was facing federal charges in connection with the bombing of the Islamic Centre of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville in May 2010. No one was injured by the crude pipe bomb, including 60 worshippers who were inside the centre.

4. Amazing it takes a UK paper to report these stories.
Apropro to nothing, you can be shot dead for just waving a weapon? Thought you had to point it first. I think tv shows has warped my reality

6. Why didn't they capture him and hold him for trial?
Just because he was a dangerous lunatic who might have killed people indiscriminately doesn't mean those FBI agents shouldn't have placed their lives at risk in a futile effort to get him to surrender.

Do I really need the sarcasm thingy?
