Taliban strikes Kandahar with deadly wave of attacks
Source: AFP/France24

The Taliban claimed responsibility for a wave of coordinated attacks targeting government buildings in the key Afghan city of Kandahar on Saturday, which has left at least two people dead and 29 wounded.

AFP - The Taliban unleashed a coordinated wave of attacks on government targets in the key southern Afghan city of Kandahar Saturday, killing at least two people and wounding 29.

President Hamid Karzai charged that the violence was "revenge" for this week's killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden by US troops in Pakistan, but the Taliban said the operation was planned several weeks ahead.

Targets in the first major incident since the Taliban unveiled the start of its spring offensive included the offices of the governor, mayor and intelligence service plus two schools and several police offices.

1. The question being - now what do we do?
Everyone knew the "Spring Offensive" was coming, as the proposed date for the troop draw-down is also approaching. Its difficult to put together a triumphal narrative of any sort allowing for graceful withdrawal, when the other side looks like it is just getting started, yet again.

I'd like to think that the president saw this coming, and has a plan...

3. This Sounds Like A Rather Feeble "Spring Offensive"
If this is all the Taliban have left then I don't see an issue with the July date to start bringing the troops home.
