The RAF has destroyed rocket launchers and Scud-missile containers in Libya, the Ministry of Defence has said.

Two Tornado fighters targeted a FROG-7 weapons system - which can fire rockets more than 40 miles (64km) - near the city of Sirte on Friday.

The planes also destroyed at least 30 containers used for transporting long-range Scud missiles.

The mission comes as Libya faces claims of scattering landmines in the beseiged rebel-held port city of Misrata.

RAF Jets Target Gaddafi Rocket Launchers

RAF fighter planes have destroyed missile launchers during a bombing raid on Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's home town, the Ministry of Defence has said

Video taken from the Tornados' Litening III targeting pod clearly shows a number of large secondary explosions after bombs were dropped.

A previous mission had identified and gathered images of the weapons site.

These were analysed by specialists from the RAF Tactical Imagery Wing who identified a large number of Frog-7 rocket launchers and Scud canisters.

Outdated map, but it does help get an idea of where Sirte is in relation to Misrata, and where Misrata is in relation to Tripoli...
