Osama bin Laden must have had Pakistan support network, says Obama
Source: Guardian

Barack Obama has ratcheted up the pressure on Pakistan, demanding that the Pakistani government investigate whether its own people were involved in a network to support Osama bin Laden in his Abbottabad hideout.

The US president's comments are his most direct yet on the subject of Pakistan's possible complicity with terrorism. He told the CBS show 60 Minutes that Bin Laden must have had "some sort of support network" inside the country.

"We don't know whether there might have been some people inside of government, outside of government, and that's something we have to investigate, and more importantly, the Pakistani government has to investigate," he said. The president also told the programme he didn't lose sleep over the possibility that Bin Laden might be killed. Anyone who questions whether the terrorist mastermind didn't deserve his fate "needs to have their head examined," he said.

Obama's words add to a sustained verbal attack by the US administration on the Pakistani government in the wake of the raid on the al-Qaida leader's lair in the middle of a busy garrison town that is home to three regiments, a military academy and thousands of soldiers.

1. Yup...the whole Bin Laden operation is meant to smoke the Pakistanis out.
I'm convinced of it. Without the balls to do this, there was no way to get Bin Laden.

5. #4 Has it right
If he's saying this now, it's because there's more than just the obvious inference to be drawn from bin Laden's presence in a military town in the heart of Pakistan: the administration has something. Likely the previous administration did, too, but "didn't want to embarrass our ally in the GWoT."

3. Very interesting.
I'd expect Obama to be doing this through diplomatic channels, not through the news media. If Pakistan had any secret protocols with the prior administration, what a bomb that would be if they decided to respond in kind.

4. Just a 'polite' way of saying the U.S. Info has real way of saying for sure.
Yet it's pretty clear - we do know.

Follow the money - it's about supporting the MIC we font demand a divorce.

6. US was paying Osama Bin Laden -- via Pakistan -- up to the very moment of 9/11 ....
Edited on Sun May-08-11 11:02 PM by defendandprotect
guess we should try to find the particulars on that one -- !!

And, Obama doesn't know that US/CIA created Taliban/Al Qaeda via ISI-Pakistan?

Stranger than fiction!!!

There were quite a number of reports on DU of this --

Here's one by Sibel Edmonds via Mike Malloy Show -- guest hosted by Brad Friedman --

Bombshell: Bin Laden worked for US till 9/11
Former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds dropped a bombshell on the Mike Malloy radio show, guest-hosted by Brad Friedman (audio, partial transcript).

In the interview, Sibel says that the US maintained 'intimate relations' with Bin Laden, and the Taliban, "all the way until that day of September 11."

These 'intimate relations' included using Bin Laden for 'operations' in Central Asia, including Xinjiang, China. These 'operations' involved using al Qaeda and the Taliban in the same manner "as we did during the Afghan and Soviet conflict," that is, fighting 'enemies' via proxies.

As Sibel has previously described, and as she reiterates in this latest interview, this process involved using Turkey (with assistance from 'actors from Pakistan, and Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia') as a proxy, which in turn used Bin Laden and the Taliban and others as a proxy terrorist army.

7. For just $1 billion, we could pay 4000 people $250k to infiltrate Pakistan.
Edited on Sun May-08-11 10:44 PM by Gregorian
I only say this because for $600 billion per year, it seems highly unlikely that we wouldn't know almost everything about everyone everywhere. I'm so skeptical about so much right now.

A simple billion could buy a hell of a lot of information, it seems to me.

Like we didn't know. I find it hard to believe that we didn't know exactly where Osama was. And who else knew and helped support him.

9. For less than that, we could get the fuck out of countries we have no business in and have far fewer
worries about "terrorism."

10. Ooops, I reacted to your title (hate it when people do that), missed your text...
Yeah, no kidding.

People are so good at compartmentalizing this shit following the cues from the ostensible national categories. "Pakistan" (ISI) must have known, logically, but this never leads back to "Sponsor of Pakistan" (USG). So it looks like a dead OBL wasn't kept on ice waiting for capture, but an ISI unit kept a live OBL in isolation until its USG sponsors called in their kill option. Note the obvious likelihood of Pakistani involvement (a conspiracy), that's good. But you're supposed to get all patriotic and outraged at Pakistan. Note the obvious likelihood of USG involvement and approval in keeping OBL, and you're mad, mad I tell you.

11. Would that be the billions in aid the USG pays to the Pakistani military...
so as to generate these situations that justify the hundreds of billions in corporate welfare the USG pays out through the Pentagon and black budget spook world and "homeland" terror complex? Because anything else compared to that is peanuts, right?
