Highland Park— An autopsy determined today that a 4-year-old boy taken from a home on California Street on Mother's Day morning died from starvation and neglect.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office said Robert Byrd, who had been in the care of an uncle and aunt, was 3 feet, 1 inch tall, weighed 24 pounds, and his emaciated body showed extensive bruising. He was found in an unresponsive state by ambulance paramedics called to the home. The death is classified a homicide.

"They starved my son," a crying Anthony Byrd, 31, told family members gathered at his east side home after he identified his son's body at the medical examiner's office.

Byrd lost custody of his sons, Robert and Anthony Jr., 6, and 12-year-old daughter Anttalayzeaha or "LayLay," when he went to prison in 2009 for felonious assault. When released nine months later, he said he was unable to regain custody. He said the boys' mother died in 2007 from a brain aneurysm.

3. seriously?...
I assume that was an attempt at sarcasm...if it was, I suggest that you note that on future attempts if it wasn't please get the hell off my planet...

In either case, if you didn't know that people would respond to a story like this emotionally then there is something wrong with you and vaguely sociopathic...

btw...welcome to DU...troll at your own peril.

2. what a sad, sad situation........
mother deceased.......father in prison..........being in the non-care of relatives was
certainly not the answer. Poor child! Perhaps being in the care of a loving gay couple
might have changed the outcome. Does anyone remember the last time they read an article
about a gay couple starving or murdering one of their children????....just sayin'

5. Yes, loving couples like the Hams in AZ. Twelve children adopted.

6. There are places to beat that drum, and places not to.
Given that these sort of events are in fact quite rare and that gays are only about 10% of the population and that to qualify for adoption, gays are more likely than not to be subject to even greater scrutiny than the police state wringer hetero candidate couples are put through, the odds are stacked against a child being placed with an abusive gay couple.

However, ALL ELSE being equal, I strongly suspect that gays are no more or less likely than anyone else to be abusive.

10. 21st Century, USA where you can deposit a neonate in a plastic receptacle-no questions asked...
where you can watch The Biggest Loser, where Donald Trump can meet-up with D. Strauss-Khan or Paul Wolfowitz in the lobbies of prime asset hotels that have suites for $3K per evening and employ working mothers that are raped by TPTB, where corporate fascism is rising and God help those that speak against it, where murderers, torturers and traitors are featured experts in MSM ...
