House Democratic Whip Hoyer Against White House Plan For Contractor Political Disclosures
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) — A House Democratic leader opposes a White House proposal to require anyone seeking government business to disclose political contributions.

Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland says government contractors should be chosen on the merits of their applications, their bids and their capabilities. Hoyer is the House Democratic whip, the second-ranking party position.

Hoyer told reporters Tuesday, "It's not a requirement now I don't think it ought to be a requirement. So I'm not in agreement with the administration on that issue."

4. "Being chosen on merits" is exactly why there should be disclosure.
Am sure he would be exposed.

6. chosen on the merits of their applications, their bids and their capabilities.
Precisely.

But in the current system its all too often based on campaign money spent.

7. There ALWAYS, no matter the issue, has to be one big name Democratic who is against anything
coming out of the White House and I mean always. You can do a search on this board - WH/Obama wants it, a Dem comes out against it. Makes us look like we can't get our act together.

10. Oh, so sad
a Dem taking money that he doesn't want anyone to know about? Why else would he want it to be kept quiet. His reasoning that contractors should be chosen by merits makes little sense, since this proposal has nothing to do with who gets the job...it's the repub line. And I know he has the brains to figure out this is just to see who is being paid by these corps in the form of contributions.

15. contractors should be chosen on the merits of their applications,
How does telling us who they contribute to change this? Is he assuming they will be chosen by their political affiliation??? Has Obama fired Bechtel? gotten rid of Halliburton? Nixed Blackwater? Or do these fine examples of companies that we KNOW have committed fraud against the Government still have contracts?

21. Is he covering up on his own behalf or on behalf of some or all of the Dems who elected him?
Whenever you complain about a Hoyer or a Reid, remember, their fellow Democrats like them where they are.

22. Could he be any more obvious?
"Hi. My name is Steny, and I'm a corporate tool."

From the link in the OP:

Hoyer represents a Maryland district in Washington's suburbs, an area rich in government contractors. His web page even provides advice on "Learning how to sell successfully to the U.S. government, the world's largest buyer of goods and services."

This is why we need to elect Progressive Democrats instead of corporate Third Way Party DINO's.

How are we going to ever make any significant progress if we have when we are being destroyed by enemies from within our own party?
