Wisconsin election staff OKs 4 recall petitions

The Associated Press
Updated: 05/10/2011 01:03:55 PM CDT

MADISON, Wis.—Four Wisconsin GOP senators are a step closer to recall elections after state officials validated thousands of signatures.

Government Accountability Board staff recommended the board certify petitions asking for recalls of Sens. Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac, Dan Kapanke of La Crosse, Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls and Luther Olsen of Ripon.

If the board certifies the petitions, all four elections would likely be held on July 12, barring further legal challenges.

Six GOP senators and three Democrats are in line for recall elections for their opposition or support of Republican Gov. Scott Walker's bill curtailing collective bargaining rights for most public employees. Both parties have challenged the petitions.

Yesterday a volunteer came to our door, although the petition against the Republican hasn't yet been certified. (It will be as soon as the swamped GAB gets to it.)
