Trump’s 2012 polling plummets
Source: Yahoo/The Ticket

It appears that "Apprentice" host Donald Trump is no longer all that effectively branded among the top tier of potential 2012 candidates for the GOP presidential nomination.

The real estate mogul tied for fifth place in a Public Policy Polling survey of the 2012 Republican field released Tuesday (pdf). That's down from first place in PPP's April survey.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was the leading preferred candidate among Republican voters, with 19 percent support in this week's survey. He was followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 18 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 13 percent, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with 12 percent. Trump tied with Rep. Ron Paul of Texas at 8 percent.

Those numbers are a long way off from the April 15 survey of the GOP race, which had Trump leading with a comfortable 26 percent of polled support. His closest competitor at the time was Huckabee, who received 17 percent, Romney had 15 percent, Gingrich received 11 percent, Palin had 8 percent and Paul polled 5 percent. (Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann placed last in both surveys.)

1. And people, all throughout the leftosphere, were bashing the president for...
releasing his BC. This guy is always two steps ahead, and knows how to make liars out of his critics. The release of his BC not only improved his own polling, but wiped out The Donald's. "Well played Sir. Well Played".....

20. Agreed. But the added consequence of releasing the BC spotlighted just...
how ridiculous our ratings obsessed M$M has become. And the fact that Trump, with the help of "serious journalists" in the media had taken this nonissue from the fringe to the mainstream, the president knew it had to be squashed. As he said, he had more important things to do. He took out Trump, and smacked the media upside the head at the same time. I still say "Well played Sir.....Well Played".

13. I think a lot of the "bashing"...
came from people who hold principle above politics.

18. The "bashing" came from the usual suspects, and "principles" never entered into it.
Just more of the same. The constant critics are all beginning to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher......just so much background noise. Nothing's ever right, or it didn't go far enough, or it went too far, blah..blah...blah.

Just as someone who never finds fault with anything the president does, the constant critics on the PL & here at DU, give themselves away by attacking every move the man makes. This tactic is completely understandable coming from the GOP, but it's suspect when the PL has a problem with every single thing this president does.

At this point, I consider some on "the left" as much the enemy of the Democratic Party as any teabagger.

22. Before now I never discussed it on here.
I thought the entire thing was just a distraction from things that should matter. I don't think I'm one of those constant critics, so I'll say it for myself: he shouldn't have done it, because it was just playing into celebrity tv-centric politics, and had zero effect on governance. Though he is the president, and for all of the problems I have with him as president, at least we have a president now who's smarter than me, so maybe he was right.

2. Fired before he was hired!
Now can we get that piece of shit television show cancelled in favor for some decent programming?

How about a show where Trump has to survive on minimum wage for three decades?

14. I like your idea for a show and I would like included
that Trump has to refrain from bragging on himself and how rich and smart he is for a few phrases of conversation. Trump would most likely be left totally speechless.

3. Extreme wealth (even when greatly exaggerated) can't buy everything.
Just ask Meg Whitman. Donald's just been schooled in Politics 101.

4. That's a shame.
I wish he would be polling just high enough to get some attention and funding only to implode a few months later.

I hope that the republicans eat each other alive and adding more crappy candidates to their field is just the ticket.

5. Birthers are po'd at Trump for getting Obama to release his BC and end their talking point fantasy.

Maybe he can get em back by pushing that "take Iraq's oil" crud.

10. Republicans. What a fickle bunch.
"Palin winked at me through the TV, talks from the hip, and doesn't read high-falutin' crap, just like me! I'd vote for her!! Wait, Romney rolled his sleeves up and wore my favorite plaid. I'd vote, uh... Whoa, hold on! Listen to Trump blathering ballsily about the birth certificate, stickin' it to Obama! Yea!!! I'd vote for HIM!"

Honestly, it's like a flavor-of-the-month club.

The only real question about the 2012 election will be whether Obama gets more or less than 40 states.

15. and here's why...

"...Following the birth certificate release, the president called Trump inexperienced and made him the laughing stock of the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, and scrutiny began piling up about Trump's past as well as his current business dealings."

That and while T-rump was posing his pompous mop head in his phony boardroom, berating Meatloaf and "firing" Gary Busey.. Obama was working with the CIA and special forces hunting and killing the most elusive and wanted terrorist in the world. OBL... case closed.

Donald.. The American RW Tea Party Taliban have spoken...Ur FIRED!
