Source: Courier-Journal

Michael Baze, a young jockey considered a rising star by many, was found dead in his car Tuesday afternoon on the back side of Churchill Downs. He was 24.

Baze’s body was inside his Cadillac Escalade in the stable area near gate 5, said Jim Wesley, Jefferson County deputy coroner.

No foul play is expected and Louisville Metro Police were handling the matter as a death investigation, said police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley.

Wesley said an autopsy will be conducted Wednesday morning, along with toxicology tests.

3. Some jockeys develop problems from maintaining weight

Baze wasn't a "rising star" in my book, he'd already arrived. He had guts and a very good mental game. He made a lot of owners happy.

They have to weigh in the low hundreds. How many men do you know who weigh that little?

5. Jockey's and formula 1 racers jeopardize their health for
the sake of a few ounces. I wouldn't rule out weight loss medications including cocaine.

BTW, Uncle Mo is touch and go. His digestive troubles has harmed his kidneys. He's being treated at Rood and Riddle so he is in good hands.

ArchArchArch is healing just fine, but his racing days are over. He had massive damage to his ligaments.
