Bin Laden Raid: Pakistan Hints China Wants Look at U.S. Stealth Copter Remains
Source: International Business Times

A Pakistani official said on Tuesday the government may let "very interested" Chinese officials see the remains of a secret U.S. stealth helicopter which was abandoned and mostly destroyed during a U.S. Special Forces raid of Osama bin Laden's compound last week.

"We might let them take a look," the official told ABC News.

The official said the U.S. had already asked for the wreckage back.

Photos released shortly after the raid show the rear rotor of a helicopter remained while the rest of the helicopter's body was apparently destroyed.

6. No this was an innovative helicoper.
That is not the Chinese strong suit. They are very good at copying however.

13. Closer to 0%.
0% by law. (or as close to 0% as is attainable) Part of DFARS. Trying to intentionally skirt those regulations is a felony that potentially comes with decades in prison (or hung, in wartime), multimillion dollar fines and disqualification in perpetuity to bid on military contracts. You'd be almost better off getting caught selling NBCs to terrorists.

It's illegal to manufacture anything used by the military (or any component thereof or most-all sourced materials even) outside of the US or a very small limited list of approved allied nations. (Basically, it's like 7 countries currently and most of the NATO members aren't even approved.) You can't even manufacture military equipment domestically if you're majority or major-minority foreign-owned by citizens or institutions of an unapproved country. China is definitely the wrong country.

It's all about making sure the military is not dependent upon anything that might become unavailable due to shifting allegiances in wartime.

(Mom's a VP for a military manufacturer. DFARS compliance is part of her job.)

8. The Serbians did something similar with wreckage from an F-117 that went down in the '99 Kosovo War.
The Russians asked the Serbian government to pack up the remains of the plane and sent it to Russia for study. They wanted to know the materials used to make the skin of the F-117, its radar absorbent properties to be exact. It may have helped them formulate materials for their newest warplane, a stealth fighter plane:

18. Are you referring to the EP-3 that landed on Hainan Island?
Edited on Wed May-11-11 08:29 AM by mahatmakanejeeves
Hainan Island incident

I'm not sure I'd say that "Bush let them have a spy plane."

The EP-3 made an unauthorized emergency landing at Lingshui airfield, after at least 15 distress signals had gone unanswered, with the emergency code selected on the transponder. It landed at 170 knots (200 mph), with no flaps, no trim, and a damaged left elevator, weighing 108,000 pounds (49,000 kg). Following the collision, the failure of the nose cone had disabled the No. 3 (inner right) engine, and the No. 1 propeller could not be feathered, leading to increased drag on that side.
....

For 15 minutes after landing, the U.S. aircraft crew continued to destroy sensitive items and data on board the aircraft, as per Department of Defense protocol. They disembarked from the plane after soldiers looked through windows, pointed guns, and shouted through bullhorns. The Chinese offered them water and cigarettes. Kept under close guard, they were taken to a military barracks at Lingshui where they were interrogated for two nights before being moved to lodgings in Haikou, the provincial capital and largest city on the island. They were treated well in general, but were interrogated at all hours, and so suffered from lack of sleep.

16. Yup...
When you look at the tech curve of all modern nations, China's is remarkable.

No nation has ever enjoyed such an amazing surge of tech advancement in recorded history as the one china has displayed.

Yes, they are smart people but it's both physically and intellectually impossible to make the kinds of gains they have in such a short period of time with help. aka stealing.
