Nebraska Senate: It's A Tea Party For Bruning

The inventor of the Tea Party Express let the surprise out of the bag before a scheduled surprise endorsement concerning Nebraska’s 2012 Senate race.

And the winner of the Tea Party promise of support is (drum roll, deep sigh or big yawn, depending on your politics) … Attorney General Jon Bruning.

Bruning wants to unseat two-term Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson, the TPE’s announced target of choice for 2012.

Tea Party founder, mouthpiece and highly paid consultant Sal Russo turned the scheduled Wednesday announcement in Washington D.C. into an anticlimax when he passed a half-teaspoon of news to Robyn Tysver of the Omaha World-Herald.

elect a progressive if they have to starve to death. Worked in McGovern campaigns there - the state is hopeless.

Edit to say that the individuals in the Democratic Party that I met while working the campaign were great - it is just that you are out numbered.

Both major Republican candidates have spoken in public about ending all Public Employee Unions like mine in the state. Ben is 80% on voting with labor lifetime according to the (US) AFL-CIO!

Nelson is not exactly me cuppa Tea. Why should we support him?

He has to get re-elected in this literally the "BIG RED" state. Listen to Ben talk in person. Talk to him like I have one on one. He makes time for me. And if he is so bad, why is the Tea Party making him target #1 nationally? He is there for people on social issues. He told W to take his privatize Social Security plan and stick it while sitting in the limo with him.

Ben is much better than his upcoming opponent regardless of which one wins the R primary.

I used to live in NE, years ago. It's quite different from the progressive area of CA where I now reside. Barbara Boxer would have no chance in NE or Barbara Lee either.

You can't let the perfect be the enemy of the tolerable in this case. NE will never elect a Barbara Boxer.

There is hope Nebraska could as well. Nelson should be primaried. If he wins so be it, then vote for him but there is a good chance a more moderate Democrat could actually win..Nothing ventured, nothing gained..

Scott had the right credentials, is a rancher, etc.

What happened in 2008 is quite a bit different than what will happen in 2012.. I think people are actually beginning to realize Republicans will hurt them.. If they are not a Large Corporation or a multi-millionaire they will be hurt by Republican Policy making.. Nelson is basically a Republican although he calls himself a Democrat... The ONLY reason he sided with Democrats at all in their Health Care debate is because his Chairmanship could have been at stake..I would like to see Nelson Primaried. That might give us a good idea of exactly how people are feeling about the Republicans right now.. The mood of the country right now seems very sour..and Republican polling shopws they are in trouble, in almost every state..

Omaha Steve is respected in these here parts, so I would defer on his behalf ...

But, really ... in the big picture: Ben Nelson has not been kind to Liberals, on the whole ...

But hey ... If you like him, go get it ... he has to be better than a teabagger (even if slightly better)
