Bush Says Policies Are Affecting Economy
President Bush says the economy's improved growth rate in the second quarter is a sign that his policies are starting to have a positive effect - though he acknowledges unemployment is still a problem.

"The best way to promote growth and job creation is to leave more money in the pockets of households and small businesses, instead of taxing it away," Bush said in his radio address for Saturday. "So we lowered income tax rates, cut taxes on dividends and capital gains, reduced the marriage penalty and increased the child tax credit."

The nation's gross domestic product, the broadest barometer of the economy's shape, expanded at an annual rate of 2.4 percent in the April to June quarter, government economists said this week. That was the fastest growth rate since last summer.

The president warned, however, that the jobless rate shows there is more work to do on the economy.

Shrub again

2. Ineffective medicine + spontaneous recovery = quackery
Suppose a patient goes to the doctor's office with a sprained wrist. The doctor prescribes orthopedic shoes (because his friend owns a shoe store). The wrist eventually gets better. Does the doctor get credit?

The economy might have fully recovered by now were it not for the Bush "prescription" of war and soft-on-corporate-crime negligence. Bush is just taking advantage of the poor economy to pay off his wealthy supporters. When the economy recovers on its own accord, Bush compounds the injury by taking credit. We need to start talking about this.

7. correct me if I'm wrong,
but out of the 2.4% increase, isn't it true that 1.2% (half) of it is due to military spending on the Iraqi war? So if we didn't go to war, then wouldn't the increase actually be 1.2% and less than what the analysts predicted which was 1.5%?

9. Yes, Yes, and Yes
When Bush was selected*, the government had a $280 billion surplus. Since then, we've had a $450 billion deficit. That means that Bush has spent over $730 billion in two and a half years. Add to this that Greenspan has cut interest rates to the bone, and all that we get is a 2.4% growth in the GDP.

Without these massive federal government infusion of cash into the economy, we'd be in a depression.

the 30 year mortgage rate has been rocketing upwards of late

10. 44,000 jobs cut in July.
3,000,000 + jobs lost since this fool took office. Trickle down not working. The Jackass expects consumer spending to = economic growth.
vital services being cut to the bone. The man is delusional. Bush is the worse thing that has happened to this country in my long lifetime. The US will have to go through painfull recontruction after the inept thugs are out of the White House. Hard to imagine that he would have the audacity to run for reelection.

Yeah, an extremely negative effect on this economy.

Every Bush lie, campaign speech, and press release will be reported as breaking news as we get closer to the 2004 election.

17. Lie about economic recovery
and then blame everyone else.

Yeah, Bush. Your policies, glad-handing attitudes and Christian BS has done a good job of destroying our economy. And when all that isn't working, and you're questioned about it, it's time to lay blame. Blame it on American workers' lack of skills, unmarried welfare mothers, Democrats for not accepting your choices for judicial seats, unions standing up in solidarity, putting our country in the red by the trillions, borrowing in the billions from other countries, outsourcing American jobs to other countries...and the list goes on. :nopity:

:kick: FU Bush.

Let the freaking moron try to pay a mortgage and AC bill on the whopping $205 bucks a week Arizona pays the unemployed.

Problem my ass. It's a national crisis for us, a boon for India and other countries getting outsourced American jobs.
