US senator views 'grotesque' Osama bin Laden photographs
Source: The Guardian

A US senator who was permitted to view secret photographs of Osama bin Laden's corpse has described "pretty grotesque" images of a badly mutilated body that leave no doubt the al-Qaida leader is dead.

Senator James Inhofe said he saw 15 pictures at the CIA headquarters in Virginia, some of which were taken immediately after Bin Laden was shot. They show the al-Qaida leader with large head wounds around the eye and ear. Inhofe described some of the pictures as "gruesome".

"One of the shots went through the ear and out through an eye socket, or through the eye socket and out through the ear and exploded, that was the kind of ordinance it was. That caused the brains to be hanging out of the eye socket," he told CNN.

Inhofe said that he had no doubt that the pictures were of Bin Laden, adding: "Absolutely no question about it. A lot of people out there say: 'I want to see the pictures,' but I've already seen them. That was him. He's gone. He's history."

1. Nothing will satify the nutters
I had to listen to a bunch of them during break in my class last night, yammering on with their convoluted conspiracy theories.

2. You could physically teleport them through time and space
to the scene of the incident, and they would just say you faked it. No amount of evidence of any kind is good enough. It's a waste of time to even try.

3. Calling people who ask questions "nutters" doesn't add to
your own credibility. Ad homonym attacks further no cause. Evidence is required
in a court of law. I think after the last 10 years and all the gore that's available
on the internet the general public can handle another corpse photo. And why trust
Imhofe? He was part of all the lying in the Iraq buildup. Why should he be trusted by you now?
Because he's a Republican who went on CNN? Man after all that's happened in the last decade it's amazing America
continues to swallow this bullshit. Let's see the evidence. Content Nutter out.

5. Thanks. I do not
like the namecalling either. And Imhofe is one of the last people I would trust.

7. Evidence may be required in a court of law but most of life, and death, isn't a court of law
For instance: I just ate breakfast. I know this is true because it was me, eating my breakfast. Should I not accept that I just ate breakfast and go eat it again because, after all, it was only me here and it may not hold up in a court of law?

9. There's a huge difference
between asking legitimate questions and babbling endlessly debunked conspiracy theories as fact. Conspiracy theories aren't facts, they are not backed up with any kind of evidence that would hold up in a court of law.

I don't give a shit about Inhofe or whether or not he saw the photos. I don't need his testimony to convince me one way or another that bin Laden is dead.

18. Conspiracies are easily debunked with evidence.
Irrefutable evidence. At the moment we still have the government story
and what the media has told us. The same media and government who
lied about the reasons for going into Iraq. Judging from your post it seems
we both agree. We both want to see evidence.

Conspiracy theories exist for a reason. People sometimes conspire to do
nefarious things. Denouncing conspiracy theorists instead of putting time
into acquiring evidence is a sad tactic of many simply believing minds.

He took up hiding in this old shed behind the city dump...

6. Can't all members of the House and Senate be permitted
to see it? So at least the representatives of the people have seen it. Then once 90% agree it's graphic and it's Bin Laden, then maybe the consituents will be somewhat satisfied.

10. Do you believe there is a great deal of constituent dissatisfaction?

Reactions seem to be mainly among:

A - Relieved / Jubilant

B - Satisfied with the outcome, concerned with the means

C - Sharply critical of how it was done

D - Osama was a patsy of some over-arching conspiracy

Each of positions A, B, and C is premised upon the fact that, indeed, Osama was killed in the operation.

The remaining reaction:

E - It is untrue, for various reasons

is held by a distinct and slim minority which, like the birthers, would not be dissuaded by a photograph of any kind.

me pause for doubt.

Thanks for the thread, alp.

12. Bachman saw the photos and is convinved U.S. forces "got our man":
http://lacrossetribune.com/news/state-and-regional/mn/article_d9d2f30d-c491-53e0-94da-af3defb1ef09.html

Bachmann was among congressional intelligence committee members to view the photos Thursday in a secure room at CIA headquarters. The potential GOP presidential candidate said there's no doubt the corpse is that of bin Laden.

Bachmann says she agrees with the White House decision not to release the photos to the public. U.S. officials have said they confirmed bin Laden's death using DNA. On WJON radio and later in a written statement, Bachmann said releasing DNA results would be less controversial than making the photos public.

If there had been anybody to put forth a conspiracy theory I would have reckoned it to be her.

Edited on Fri May-13-11 08:30 AM by legin
When the CIA wants some info into the public domain they get Inhofe to do it.

(A guess as usual)
