Republican lawmakers release budget proposal without tax increases
Source: Contra Costa Times

<snip>Highlights of the proposal

Revenue:

Count on a $5 billion boost from increased tax revenue in the current fiscal year and the one that starts July 1. The nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office reported the state received $2.5 billion more than projected since the current fiscal year started.

Take $2.4 billion from First 5 and Proposition 63, a mental health account funded by a tax on millionaires, including their 2011-12 revenues and reserves.

Solutions:

Cut $1.1 billion in state employee costs, which translates
to a 10 percent pay cut for workers. The state recently negotiated savings from public employee unions.

Save $1.3 billion by adopting cuts proposed by the governor but rejected by Democratic lawmakers. Includes cutting funding to adult day health care centers, limiting the time to four years that both parents and children can receive welfare grants under CalWORKS, reducing CalWORKS grants by 13 percent, and eliminating paying for cleaning and laundry for seniors and the disabled receiving in-home support.

Go ahead Republican lawmakers! Trying to balance the budget on the backs of State employees, the elderly, the poor, children and the disabled is disgraceful at best! Shame on you!

1. This could be the issue that finally starts to wake America up
Those who continue to vote against their own best interest might finally come out of their stupor and see the light.

One can hope anyway!

2. Forward this article to Republican state workers
I wonder if they'll even admit to being Republicans *cough*, I mean Independents, after finding out that they will be taking a 10% pay cut and more furlough days.

Good luck on this deal Republicans!

:kick:

6. Here are the statistics from CA. State Controller John Chiang's Office
There are 428,134 state employees.
Their monthly salary is $1,497,886,455
Their yearly salary is $17,974,637,460
10% is $1,797,463,746
So that's approximately $1.8B on the backs or 428,134 people out of approximately 40,000,000
So that means that 1% of the population has to take a 10% cut in pay

There are 15,975,100 civilian workers in California. Plus the 428,134 from state employees,
means that there are 16,403,234 workers in California.

So instead of burdening 438K state employees with $1.8B in salary cuts
we could tax all 16M workers an average of $109.58 per year extra, which is approximately $9.13
per month. (The cost of approximately 1 lunch?)

3. Wow, do these Republicans WANT to lose in 2012?
They do realize that they're shooting themselves in the foot AGAIN, don't they? Don't they realize that the people they're harming by their policies are the people that VOTE for them? I swear, I've never witnessed such mass stupidity.

5. Quite a spectacle, aren't they?
I think they are testing their base. Wondering how far they can push them around before they push back. So far, the only Resistance they've encountered came with the Ryan budget proposal to dismantle Medicare. For the most part, their sheeple will vote the way FOX and Rush tell them.

Hopefully the 2012 backlash on their policies is of historic proportions.
