[Canadian] Top court says PM, ministers not subject to info law
Source: CBC.ca

The public does not have a right to access all documents in the offices of cabinet ministers or the prime minister, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled Friday in a unanimous decision.

The top court upheld a Federal Court of Appeal decision, and sided with the federal government in a decade-old legal battle with the information commissioner.

Had the federal government lost its case Friday, it could have vastly expanded the scope of Canada's access-to-information law and potentially have allowed Canadians to get a closer look at the inner workings of the Prime Minister's Office and ministers' offices, including who they meet with on a daily basis.

I'm sure the timing of this has absolutely nothing to do with Stephen Dubya Harper finally getting a majority in the parliament.

1. Poor Canada.
It's just a shadow of its former self. So sad.

2. well..there are always OTHER ways to get information
..and getting a decision like this made this early into his 'majority' government (%30-something of the vote does NOT represent the majority of Canadians!) doens't bode well for the rest of us.

He's arrogant, probably doesn't know a thing about technology other than 'point n' click', & the more heavy handed he gets the more eyes will be on him.

What doesn't get leaked by his own stupidity (& possibly his own cabinet) will found out by other 'hacktivist' organizations.

Nothing to worry about!

5. 6 of the 9 justices were appointed under the Chretien/Martin Liberal era
3 of the 9 are from Ontario and 3 from Quebec. Of the 6 Chretien/Martin appointees, 3 come up on mandatory retirement during Harper's mandate. Then we'll really see a swing to the right.
