APSeveral Latin American governments have reached an agreement that will permit the return of ousted Honduran leader Manuel Zelaya to his homeland and the country's re-entry into the Organization of American States, officials said Sunday.
The pact will be unveiled Sunday in Cartagena, Colombia, at a meeting attended by current Honduran President Porfirio Lobo, Colombia's Juan Manuel Santos and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Santos and Chavez mediated the exit to the crisis caused by the June 2009 coup that sent Zelaya into exile and caused the OAS to suspend Honduras as a member.
A spokesman for the Honduras president said Lobo has signed the deal — dubbed the Cartagena Accord — and Zelaya is scheduled to sign it Sunday in Managua at a forum attended by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, El Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes and Guatemala's Alvaro Colom.
Santos said by Twitter that Sunday's agreement "implies the return of Zelaya to Honduras and its return to the OAS."
