Source: KC Star

JOPLIN, Mo. | Authorities say a tornado has hit a Joplin hospital and caused the roofs of two city fire stations to collapse.

Jasper County Emergency Management Director Keith Stammer says a tornado hit the St. John’s Regional Medical Center on the city’s south side. He said there are multiple reports of injuries from the twister that struck around 6 p.m. Sunday.

There also were broadcast reports of damaged businesses and vehicles overturned on highway entrances elsewhere around or near the city.

22. Meanwhile,60miles away, 2 huge beutiful rainbows filled the skies with sunlight hitting the tops of
the trees only while the bottoms of the trees remained dark...it was eerily beautiful. Climate change and global warming are really apparent in the lightning which defies description and must be seen to be believed.

Republicans live in a dream world which denies reality...on the economy and on climate change. science, education, and health care. They litterly don't know what they are talking about on any of these topics and only wish them fixed with their fantasy approach. Why does the MSM even listen to them or repeat what they say as the least bit credible?

4. Joplin suffers 'direct hit' from tornado; early reports indicate 'major damage'
<snip>

National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Griffin confirmed a Joplin has suffered "a direct hit" from a tornado that touched down in the center of town.

At least one tornado reportedly touched down near Rangeline Road and Interstate 44 ‹ near mile markers 10 and 11.

"It went right through the center of town," he said.

Griffin said the NWS will not immediately send anyone to assess the damage because a severe weather watch is in effect for the entire area, meaning the event is not yet over.

19. OMG, I just cannot imagine...
The loss of life has got to be high, since that's a pretty big hospital, and now where will they take the injured? This is huge news. They even reported about it on my local news, Albany, NY. ;(

25. A report I got from the area.
I have a family member that lives on the North edge of Joplin. They weren't directly hit by the tornado, but they saw it in plain view. They described it as being as large or larger than the tornado at the end of the movie Twister. They think it's a definite F5.

No tornadoes to speak of near St. Louis here, but in some areas softballs and grapefruit (hail) fell from the sky.
