2. Anyone ask Jim Inhofe what he thinks about climate change and the federal government's role
Edited on Wed May-25-11 02:20 PM by Old and In the Way
in assisting states with natural disasters? Maybe he could hit up his Big Oil buddies for a little cash assistance.

3. Because we're all thinking about that right now...
picking debris out of our backyards, when the storms were 4 miles away. And we're lucky, because we have houses still left, our cars didn't end up in trees, and we're not dead.

4. Is he among the Republicons who voted to kill the U.S. Weather Warning Systems?
Edited on Wed May-25-11 02:37 PM by SpiralHawk
One of those head-up-the butt RepubliCorp Cronies who want to leave America defenseless in the face of the wild climate-change induced weather the Republicons lie about so frequently?

5. The people in these states
that have been so devastated by tornadoes are overwhelmed taking care of themselves, their families and friends.

A friend's son lives in Joplin. A college classmate lives in Alabama. A best friend lives in Oklahoma City. Family members live around Ft. Smith. A high school classmate lives in the area of Arkansas that was devastated last night. I am damned fortunate that my own home wasn't devastated by tornadic storms. There is nothing funny about what has happened.

Since it's your brilliant idea I think you should be tasked with making that request of Inhoff. You can report back to us.

FWIW, your lame attempt at humor rings empty here.

6. Humor? What humor?
Sounds like exactly what the Repubs count on, charitable contributions from big corporations. Thirty years of "getting government off the backs of the people" has paid off with results like we see this month and last. I'll agree, pointing it out so soon after the tragedy makes it sting even more, but when is it not "too soon"? Is it "too soon" to mention that Cuba had less than 1% the deaths that New Orleans did from Hurricane Katrina?

It's about time to implement disaster capitalism in reverse; in the wake of these tornadoes, people have to admit that there is a place for government in taking care of each other.

7. I'm sorry if you took my post as humor.
That wasn't the intent. More like cynicism, frustration, bitterness, and contempt for 3 decades of policy that has busted this country by subsidizing Big Oil/Big Coal while denying the impact of burning hydrocarbons and the growing instability of our environmental weather patterns. Spending trillions helping Big Oil get their product to market with huge taxpayer costs in the form of 100's of billions in military spending. Our National Guard on near permanent duty in Afghanistan, Iraq, and who knows where else. State governments with no financial resources to deal with these environmental tragedies. And starving our state/local governments of revenue to deal with these events because of reckless tax policies that people like Inofe have helped to enact.

And my point is it's people like Inhofe who have actively helped to stonewall and block any kind of bi-partisan action to address the growing threat of Global climate change because he's bought and paid for by Big Oil. I understand that the timing sucks, but when is the time right? there are consequences to policies that people promote. The policies have been decades in the making...the results are beginning to be seen in many communities in many US communities. Time to hold these people accountable and reorder our priorities if we want to survive the 21st century as a viable country.

9. This is our future, folks -- Global Warming --
Edited on Wed May-25-11 10:18 PM by defendandprotect
and the chaotic weather will continue to increase in number and

severity!

This also includes earthquakes --

and earthquakes generate more volcanic activity.

Meanwhile, remember the latest recent round of the "e-mails" which overturned

all common sense and intelligence among the public as they opened their eyes

wide and proclaimed ... "Well, that must mean there is no such thing as Global Warming!"

Rightwing/oil industry has been able to lie to and confuse the public on this issue for

50 years --- because there was a 50 year delay in our feeling the effects of Global Warming ----

We're now up to about 1960 in the effects we are feeling and imagine all we did after

that time!!

THIS is why it is so essential that we stop capitalism's exploitation of nature --

We have to stop burning fossil fuels --

We need to start closing down nuclear reactors -- which takes from 6 months to a year to do.

The nuclear reactors in Japan at Fukushima were only built to withstand 7.0 earthquakes --

and there are 18 of those reactors in three different locations in Japan.

And certainly we should STOP any new efforts by Obama to subsidize a new generation of nuclear

reactors here in US!

Pretty much every US state has two nuclear reactors now -- don't know where the two in

Missiouri are -- but presume not in Joplin?

Some reactors are built on faults -- unbelievably enough! -- two in Ohio are built on Lake Erie

... a source of drinking water! Nuclear power plants require lots of water for cooling.

But, basically, it's an insane idea to use nuclear power to boil water for steam!!

As Einstein pointed out!!
