Denver PostFORT CARSON — A Fort Carson soldier pleaded guilty this morning to murdering a Taliban commander. He was discharged from the military and sent to prison.
Pfc. David Lawrence, 20, detailed for the tribunal his plan to kill the Afghan detainee last Oct. 17 as he lay in a jail cell in Arghandab, Afghanistan.
"I went into the cell and I shot him in the face, your honor," Lawrence said at his court martial this morning.
Lawrence said he pulled the trigger to avenge the killing six weeks earlier of his company's chaplain and several fellow soldiers.

Dishonorable discharge at E1, life sentence (12.5) with possibility of parole. Sounds about right to me.
