Santorum delinquent on taxes on western Pa. home
Edited on Fri May-27-11 03:26 PM by RamboLiberal
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer

WASHINGTON - Former Sen. Rick Santorum is delinquent on property taxes for his Penn Hills home, according to court records.

Penn Hills township, about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, filed a lien against Santorum for $487.60 in October for unpaid 2009 property taxes. It had not been paid as of today, according to Allegheny County court documents.

-----

Santorum, his wife, Karen, and their seven children live in a larger home in northern Virginia, but they have maintained the house in Penn Hills next to Karen Santorum's parents. Their residency became the subject of controversy during his Senate career, when the Penn Hills school district paid for five of the Santorum children to attend a Virginia cyber school.

The state Department of Education in 2006 reimbursed the district $55,000 to settle the case, but the question of whether Santorum really lived in Pennsylvania - he claimed he did when Congress was not in session - dogged him during his unsuccessful reelection campaign against Bob Casey.

What a thief! They had to file liens in 2001 & 2003 as well!

1. Why do people of means not pay their fucking bills?
Maybe it's because they don't know what it is to worry about bills like us 'little people.'

3. Maybe 457 dollars seems like such a small amount he doesn't think anyone would really
care whether he paid it or not.

5. What pisses me off is he scammed Penn Hills which is not a wealthy district
to pay for his 5 kids educations in Virginia! And looks like PA taxpayers still ended up paying the bill.

Santorum could well afford to pay a cyber school. Looks too like he didn't trust having his kids mix with others at a public or private school.

That issue did help sink him against Casey!

6. Latest: He's up to date on taxes - report incorrect
WASHINGTON -- Former Sen. Rick Santorum paid a penalty for a late Penn Hills property tax filing in 2010, but his taxes are up to date.

An earlier version of this story was incorrect in stating that Mr. Santorum was delinquent on his taxes. The initial report was based on an outdated Allegheny County lien.

Penn Hills township filed a lien against Mr. Santorum for $487.60 in October for unpaid 2009 property taxes, according to Allegheny County court documents. But county real estate records show that Mr. Santorum paid the taxes -- he just did so a few months late, with a $39.77 fee tacked on. The real estate records also show Mr. Santorum paid on time this year for his 2010 property taxes.

Mr. Santorum, who lost his Senate seat in 2006 after two terms, plans to announce a campaign for president June 6 in Somerset.

Former Sen. Rick Santorum and his wife own this home at 111 Stephens Lane, Penn Hills.

Basically a home of convenience so he can say he lives here and before he got caught to get local district to pay his VA school kids cyber school cost.

I forgawdaboudit - lemme distract you by hating some group who doesn't think like me

when a county has to go to the point of putting a lien on his house to get paid, even in 2009, it shows blatant disregard for the rule of law and our Constitution, right Ricky boy? wouldn't you say that about someone else?

he should never run for anything but hypocrite now

8. Here's how he was ripping off PA taxpayers for his VA kids
The state Department of Education has agreed to pay the Penn Hills School District $55,000 to settle a dispute over whether the school district should have paid for cyber schooling for the children of U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum.

The settlement doesn't address whether Mr. Santorum is a resident of Penn Hills. And the Republican senator and the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School don't have to pay any of the money, said Brian McDonald, spokesman for the state Department of Education. The money will come from state coffers.

-----

At the time questions were raised, the house was occupied by his niece and her husband, but Mr. Santorum said sometimes a couple of his kids stayed there while he was at the in-laws. In May, some contended the house was empty.

-----

The Santorums, who have six children, home schooled their children before they enrolled five of them in the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School at Penn Hills' expense.

12. well
My town sends one bill a year and you pay quarterly. That means I have to remember. That is not as easy as getting an actual bill. And I pay a lot more than $500, it is my largest annual expense.

Edited on Sat May-28-11 08:11 PM by ClarkUSA
I can see the OFA campaign ad now. Pinch me... I'm dreaming.

Of course, the only reason he's running is so he can get some campaign money to spend and free meals from GOP groups. Then he can write another book and use the phrase "former presidential candidate" in his bio creds.
