Obama Cites Poland as Model for Arab Shift
Source: The New York Times

WARSAW — President Obama held up Poland on Saturday as a model for Arab nations undergoing political upheaval, saying that its peaceful overthrow of Communism provided lessons for Tunisia and other countries that are struggling with the chaotic aftermath of popular revolts.

Mr. Obama wrapped up a six-day trip to Europe with a stop in this city, the capital of a staunch American ally. He paid tribute to the elders of the Solidarity movement, which led the uprising in Poland, as well as young activists just back from Tunisia, where they offered advice based on Poland’s experience.

“Poland has navigated that process as well as any country in recent history,” Mr. Obama said at a meeting that included Solidarity leaders, though not Lech Walesa, one of its founders, who was out of the country. The president said he wanted “all states undergoing similar experiences to learn from Poland.”

Mr. Obama’s 24-hour visit to Poland, a mix of ceremony and substance, allowed him to offer belated condolences to relatives of the victims of the 2010 plane crash that killed President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and much of the country’s civilian and military elite.

5. Obviously Obama has NOT read The Shock Doctrine. Poland is
one of the countries deeply hurt by disaster capitalism. Statements like this more than anything else shake my faith in Obama.

6. So much wrong here, it's hard to know where to start
Yes, they've been shock doctrined well, but there's lots of nice new indoor malls where you can buy cheap Chinese shit. I'm sure he and the modern day szlachta got along just fine.

7. Poland? He must be joking.
If he deliberately picked Poland as a role model, we are in for a world of shit.

why do you think millions of Poles are trying to get the hell out of Poland, and move to Britain, despite the poverty and unemployment Britain is currently facing?

Poland is a capitalist disaster of the worst sort; right-wing fascism all over the place, massive oppression of unions, few to no workers rights (that are enforced), low pay, dangerous and unregulated work, I mean jeez, Obama.

8. The Polish people are among the most admirable on Earth. Their
bravery and fortitude against the Nazis and then later against the Communists is the stuff inspirational history is made of.
