Colleges to counteract dwindling ranks of high school graduates
Source: KC Star

The Columbia and Kansas City campuses of the University of Missouri again will be awash in freshmen this fall.

But it may be a high tide.

In eight years, if a recent national report is correct, the number of high school graduates in Missouri will fall by 5 percent.

An aging population, coupled with a decline in high school graduates entering college and the workforce, is a matter for national concern, experts say.

1. They've ruined the higher education system...
really...if you break it down to how much you'll pay for a bachelors degree...and factor in how much (or really...how little) you'll be making after you graduate, I hate to say it, but it's just a bad investment if looked at from the financial side.

Now I'll stress that I think education is important. VERY important. But is it so important that one should be themselves in such a debt that requires them to pay for decades and decades? Really...it's become the new indentured servitude. "We put you though school, and you can be forever in debt to us.".

2. I would agree....while not perfect by any stretch of the imagination,
I think even having to run a fryer at the local fast food place is almost acceptable if you have a degree, because you KNOW that you're smarter than the goon who probably writes your schedule, it's just a matter of time till you're outta there and on to something better (hopefully)...

As far as getting into debt over a college education is concerned, I have learned to pay CASH for all my classes...it takes longer, but the ability to go earn 30-50 grand the first year out, and NOT have to give it right back to a bank, is a plus in my book...but that's just me....

opinions to the contrary are welcome, as always..

Peace...
