Nobel Prize Winner: I think this is the worst government the U.S. has ever

Economists who win the Nobel Prize aren't known for being outspoken. Hence our surprise to read that 2001 laureate George Akerlof thinks Americans should protest the Bush administration's "irresponsible" policies. In a recent interview in Der Spiegel on U.S. economic policy, he criticizes the administration for "throwing money away" and projects a deficit of over $6 trillion in 10 years that will force massive cuts in services for the elderly. He praises Bush, Sr., for taking the political risky step of raising taxes to control the deficit, and bashes Bush, Jr., with this zinger: "I think this is the worst government the U.S. has ever had in its more than 200 years of history. It has engaged in extraordinarily irresponsible policies not only in foreign and economic but also in social and environmental policy. This is not normal government policy. Now is the time for people to engage in civil disobedience."

and at that time I remarked that Akerlof is one of the very best.

Now to get this message out to more people!!!

By the way, I've heard something similar from ordinary working people: "Bush is the worst president in my lifetime."

question that this administration is the worst that I've seen in lifetime. I was in college during the Viet Nam war and have vivid memories of Nixon and his corrupt group, and this administration seem every bit as bad. Frankly, the similarities are scary.

It is just simply amazing to me that so many American people are so frickin' blind to all this (of course I blame the media the most because they CERTAINLY should see it and be informing the public).

To actually suggest that civil disobedience is required to set things right here is simply astonishing. I don't disagree, however.

As interesting as this story is, it was first reported early last week and no longer qualifies as Latest Breaking News.
