Iran says won't hand over al Qaeda members to U.S.
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/B503359.htm

TEHRAN, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Iran said on Monday it would not hand over any detained members of Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network to Washington and denied trying to strike a prisoner exchange deal with the United States.

Iran publicly acknowledged for the first time last month that it was holding some senior al Qaeda figures and said it planned to extradite some of them to "friendly countries".

On Saturday the New York Times quoted a U.S. official as saying Washington had approached Tehran with a request to hand over al Qaeda men in Iranian custody, including Saif al-Adel, an Egyptian thought to be al Qaeda's security chief.

The paper said Iran wanted the United States to hand over members of the People's Mujahideen Iranian opposition group, currently under U.S. control in Iraq, in return.

2. "Friendly" Countries?
Now who might they be?

Pakistan?

Saudi Arabia?

Afghanistan?

Get the point folks- those are our "allies." (Remember this next time some wing-nut goes on about "treason.")

3. Maybe they want to make sure they get a fair trial ...
... so they will send them to a place where the rule of law still exists ...

4. Given that Iran's leadership isn't too keen on judicial prudence itself
I doubt that's the reason they wouldn't turn them over to the US.

6. This One's Easy...
...So they can be executed with minimal internal grumbling.

Iran isn't any different than the rest of the world.

Psychos are "good" if they work against your enemies and you maintain control over them. These folks are likely "uncontrolable". All nutcases outlive their usefulness eventually (hell, we donk's know that first-hand).
