1. What's wrong with that?
The guy's got his head so far up Hollywood's ass, he sings movie theme songs whenever Jack Valenti farts.

2. He's a Dem (and popular in his state), that's what's wrong...
And why the Hollywood slam? And the Valenti slam?

5. What's your stance on copyrights?
Jack Valenti is head of the Motion Picture Association of America, which works and acts just like the RIAA, except they don't make the papers as often.

Fritz "House Hollywood Sock Puppet" Hollings, along with a handful of other DINOs, is one of the major voices behind making Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology compulsory in as many electronic devices as the Pigopolists can get their trotters on. Check here to see what I mean. Fritz has been relatively silent lately, but I don't see him changing his mind on these issues, even if he were capable of doing so.

I learn more about how sorry these bullshiters are everyday. The Consumer Broadband and Digital Television Promotion Act (CBDTPA) makes us all targets for investigation, for just recording movies??? Fuck this..talk about government waste, this is our tax dollars going down the toilet. Or even worse, increasing the profits of the corporate media networks while increasing the price we have to pay for sorry entertainment.

Who ever runs for Holling's Senate seat must be willing to take a different approach on this issue. Corporate lobbyists used the Democrats when the party was in power, then they ditched the party in favor of the GOP in 1994. When will we realize that serving corporate interests is neither "mainstream" nor serves our party's long-term interests?

Serving the needs of the comman people is what will best help our party, while keeping Democrats in office for the next half century.

12. Hollings, aka "The Senator from Disney,"
is not loved by too many Dems, either. His DMCA nonsense, and his consistent toadying to the MPAA are major turnoffs, even from an otherwise inoffensive Dem.

3. Don't the Dems Have a Good SC Candidate?
I thought I read that the Democrats have an excellent Senate candidate in South Carolina in case Hollings doesn't run again. Anyone have details?

13. I say run Alex Sanders again - or even frmr. Gov. Hodges
Or even Joe Riley from Charleston.

If any of them are willing, of course.

This is kinda like getting Gore to run again, in that it would give people a second chance to put the right man in office, now that the repuke inept and self-serving agenda has been (somewhat) uncovered.

Hollings has certainly put in his share of time in service to the people of SC and the US. With so much at stake in 04, I wish he would have run one last time, but I respect his decision.

For some reason, I sense a Caroll Campbell run, and I can't bear the thought of my two Senators being Graham and Campbell. :puke:

But a Senator Sanders or a Senator Riley or a Senator Hodges I could live with.

11. Official Sen. Hollings Retirement Thread
Two threads were started within minutes of each other; for the sake of continuity, let's keep all of our discussion about the retirement of Sen. Hollings consolidated into this thread, which is the longer one at the time of this posting.

Please see also the other, locked LBN thread for other discussion:
