Rumors About Gore Candidacy Just Talk, Experts Say
McClatchy Newspapers

--- Kiki McLean, a Democratic consultant who is Gore's spokeswoman, said as far as she knew there was "no truth" in the latest reports.

Democratic National Committee official Donna Brazile, who worked for the Gore campaign in 2000, said he was "so respected" that it was likely his name would be raised. But, she added, "the (Democratic) field is set. What we see is what we will get."

"The trouble is that people want an instant front- runner," said Brazile, "and this is too early. I don't expect to see this really shaking down before next January, and it could take longer." ---

Larry Sabato, a professor of government at the University of Virginia, warned that Democrats putting out the Gore rumor were simply diminishing current candidates.

"If Gore had wanted to do this, he would have played it differently, and certainly would have kept a higher profile," Sabato said.

2. January? with each passing day Gore fades from the scene
As is pointed out in another thread, people are investing in Dean--lots of people. Dean is speaking out about issues, very forthrightly and with conviction and courage. NOW. Gore is not "automatically" a frontrunner just because he has "name recognition." He's been out of it and by January it will look ridiculous if he suddenly comes out of nowhere, a blast from the past. It's not going to happen.

We need a LEADER.

GORE ISN'T LEADING.

Dean has challenged B*sh with 16 Questions. Where is Gore's challenge?

3. Please
Do not be disrespectful of Gore. If in fact he ahs chosen to retire from publicv life and has no intention of running, why would he be doing any of the things you are talking about? If he wants to be a private citizen again, let him.

4. yes, of course--that is why it's silly to think he'll pop up in January
--he can't have it both ways--he can live his private life, as he well deserves, or he can run for president. to me it doesn't look like he's running for president.

8. I'm with you, LL
After the primaries start, I agree it would be probably unseemly for him to enter (but who knows what the hell will be going on then). I wish he had been more vocal in criticizing the toxic texans up till now, but maybe the good of the nation would not have been best served that way. Maybe an impeachment will make him change his mind. Maybe he knows something we don't. Whatever the reason, anyone that has enough support can enter the race for POTUS at whatsoever time they feel would be best. And the primaries haven't even begun.

I don't understand, STILL, why the anti-Gore duers feel the need to dis Gore and whomever might support him in a run for 04. It's not like all the "Gore Dems" are going to withold support of the Dem nominee if Gore doesn't get in.

January is a good deadline. I'm with you. If he's in by then, I'll be a happy happy Dem. If he's not, I'll still be a happy happy Dem, because we have some other outstanding candidates I'd be thrilled to support.

I'm pretty much ABB, but for 04, nobody beats Gore.

5. I don't want Gore popping up at the last minute.
Even if that is as early as January. I think it would look desperate.

ITA with Ima Sinnic: we need a leader, someone who is respectful, but willing to challenge * on the issues.

7. This is not breaking news
This is just rumor. GOre did not say he would not come back. CNN reported a such thing back in June and my Media Watch group debunked it and proved it was a lie. Gore would call off all efforts and put this to rest if he wanted it. Plus, I am alerting this due to irrelevancy.

9. didn't Gore's spokesperson say he was not running?
If so, why doesn't Gore just say it again>

I think the reason is that he IS coming back. I hope he does.

But if his spokesperson is saying he isn't running that looks pretty solid.

Thoughts?

It is not irrelevent. It is frustrating.

GORE!!!! Come back!!!! RUN!!!!
