Iraqis storm police station after firefight with US soldiers
An angry crowd on Monday stormed and ransacked a police station in the town of Khaldiya, some 80 kilometres west of Baghdad.

According to eyewitnesses, the trouble started when a group of Iraqi insurgents laid an ambush for a US military convoy passing through the town.

Eyewitnesses claim seeing at least one US soldier hurt, who was then carried inside the local police station.

US soldiers responded to the attack with gunfire, and hit several local people, including children, according to eyewitnesses.

An angry armed crowd then assembled at the spot and attacked the police station, whose officers had come to rescue the US soldiers.

The station was then stormed and ransacked after a fierce gunbattle.

The fate of the US soldiers and Iraqi policemen inside the station was still unclear, but it was thought they had escaped.

1. Not good at all.
Remember the dead Brits down around Basra?

Hope they got the soldiers out, but they gotta do something
about the guy(s) that are spraying bullets around.

2. Hope our guys got out.

Classic tactic--position the attack where return fire hits civilians. The longer this goes on, the better the bad guys will get and the more we'll see of this kind of incident.

BTW, wasn't the story strangely sequenced? Leads off with ransacking a police station, but you have to read further down to find out about the real story--an ambush, gunfight, and civilian casualties.

3. yes --- classic guerrilla tactics...
one thing people forget is that one of the -- if not THE --- main objectives of guerrilla insurgencies... at least in its opening low scale phase -- is to force the occupying forces to get messy and use a heavy hand against the populus... thereby pushing the populus more and more onto the side.

5. So they're expertly setting a trap
And we are amateurishly falling right into it.

4. Which bad guys are you talking about
the ones who invaded someone else's country or the ones who want them to get the fuck out?
