Reuters to shift core unit to India
BBC World Edition

News and financial information provider Reuters is planning to move much of the core of its operation to India in an attempt to save money.

The move, unveiled on 28 July in a simultaneous presentation to 1,100 staff worldwide will see new products being developed at either Hyderabad or Bangalore. ---

Among staff affected are 350 based in Tiverton in south-west England, another 65 in Edinburgh in Scotland, as well as a further 600 or so in New York and White Plains in the US, Singapore in East Asia, and in several other offices around the world. ---

Many companies are shifting call centres and other ancillary divisions to India to save money, but a shift of core operations is more rare. ---

1. We made all these corporations! Do they show us any respect?
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 12:35 AM by dArKeR
It's called GOP FECES respect. We're all being hung out to dry/die.

I have personal experience that Reuters Taiwan Bureau chief, Jeffrey Parker, he's corrupt. In 2000, the Taiwan Presidential campaign, Reuters sold a story about the Taiwan election. I saw it on CNN; other major webs. Parker wrote only about candidates Soong, the bastard from China who was kicked out or left the Gwo Ming Dong Party and started the People First Party, and Lien, the other bastard from China head of the Gwo Ming Dong Party(KMT). (All in a name, Soong is about the dirtiest/corrupt piece of shit on Earth, People Die First To Line My Pockets First Party.) Parker had a nice long bio of these 2 scum bags.

Anyway, at the time, Chen, of the only real party of the people, DPP, Democratic Progressive Party, was by far the most popular candidate, 80% plus, but many people were uneasy about him becoming President for fear China would attack Taiwan if Chen won.

But not to even mention Chen as a candidate to all the world's news outlets is nothing more than bribery to Parker by the Gwo Ming Dong. This is equal to an American election and Reuters not naming Bush or Gore as one of the candidates. Very very serious corruption that deserves firing at the least and even a criminal investigation.

I was so upset I called the Taiwan Reuters office but Parker was not in. The staff seemed very nervous when I had questioned them about the story. I then sent emails to Reuters and I did get 2 responses from management that they would refer my emails to the propper department. (Hand written emails.)

I don't know if Parker got fired but it sure put him and Reuters on notice.

Don't get disgusted and give up. Pound these FECES with emails or phone calls, it works!

PS. Chen won the election.

The Democratic Progressive Party, which controls a third of parliament and the Taipei mayoralty, yearns for independence but has cooled its fiery appeals in the face of Beijing's military warnings against independence -- which give voters cold feet.

Found a 1998 article by Parker. Such bull, Taiwan is 75% Taiwanese people to 25% of the Nationalist who invaded by force Taiwan in 1949. There is no doubt 80% of Taiwanese hate and despise the Mainland Chinese.

The two-year-old Taiwan Independence Party still advocates such a split outright, but has won scant voter support.

I don't see any recent articles by him in google. Maybe I got him fired! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

7. We -- as in U.S. -- did not make Reuters
It's a British company.

Of course, you can say that its operations in the U.S. are a major part of its income, but that's a bit different.

No, the Brits made that company, and we can see how they're being rewarded. It's really all the same thing.

5. It's only the 'content operation'. It is their money maker.
Executive and news staff will undoubtedly stay in London, Paris, New York, etc.. Sounds to me like it's mostly tech staff and backup.

"The content operation supplies the data which appears on Reuters screens used by investors.

The company makes most of its money from the screens, rather than from selling news to papers and broadcasters, so the content division is at the core of the company. "

6. Kick
And our Administration in Washington assures India that they'll fight to block the bans on outsourcing. I'm so pleased that Boy George is concerned about jobs.

8. what do we get in fair trade from India? It appears all trade is one way
particularly the trade in humans. We export the jobs and import the workers for lower wages in the jobs we still have. US will be a 3rd world country.

10. so true
what does it matter if we get lower priced goods if we don't have jobs to buy the goods?

To bad people aren't going to wake up in this country before it's too late and yes we are headed for 3rd world status. Hell, we are bankrupt as it is thanks too *Bush.

Just because the 'corporate media' isn't reporting it? Hell, that isn't going to make the mess we are in go away.

13. These news stories
remind me of Mortimer and Randolph Duke in "Trading Places" as they sign the employees paychecks.

Mortimer: We seem to paying our employees an awful lot of money!
Randolph: There's no getting around the minimum wage Mortimer.
