Sat, May 1, 2004 --By AP

FALLUJAH, Iraq -- Iraqi forces took over positions from withdrawing marines and raised the Iraqi flag at the entrance to Fallujah yesterday under a plan to end the month-long siege of the city.

Moves to end the siege, which drew strong criticism internationally and from America's Iraqi allies, began despite a suicide car bombing that killed two marines and wounded six at a garrison on the outskirts of the city. U.S. officials provided no further details on the attack.

Negotiations were also taking place in the southern city of Najaf, where tribal leaders and police discussed a proposal to end a standoff between soldiers and militiamen loyal to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

In a sermon, al-Sadr remained defiant, saying he rejected "any appeasement with the occupation." Still, mediators said al-Sadr and U.S. officials agreed to a truce due to last through Sunday

5. Odd isn't it............
that the Bushies want to remove the phrase "God is Great" from the Iraqi flag while pushing for more God Stuff in OUR country. Wrong God I guess. Their God is obviously inferior to our God. The Iraqis aren't taking well to their coalition chosen new flag, and who can blame them. Imagine the hue and cry if some occupation force in OUR country decided to replace "Old Glory" with something more benign of their choosing. I don't think it would sit too well with all of the flag waving neanderthals in the good old U.S. of A. Whay do they think that the Iraqi's nationalistic pride is any less than our own?

7. just as odd...
is the marketing theme of "democracy" in Iraq as the reason we went into Iraq (revised from WMDs)

yet here in the good ole USA - the GOPers are dismantling our own Constitution one amendment at a time..

---sorta related "logic"

...exporting jobs is good because it brings cheaper products to US consumers, but importing cheaper drugs is not good

6. If only we raised their flag earlier on their land
it might have worked towards a better relationship, inspiring trust etc. a few bolts of cloth could have given hope and staven off some ill will.

oh what the hell am i saying... i knew perfectly well these buffoons would screw up afghanistan and iraq. i knew the military was being used. i knew that the people would not be attended to first before the oil fields. i, like others, saw all this coming...

oh god, it's like watching two passenger liner ships crashing in slow-mo...
