Democrats yet to fight redistricting suit’s move (Colo.)
DENVER (The Daily Times

The head of the Colorado Democratic Party on Monday said the party has not decided if it will fight the transfer to federal court of a suit challenging the congressional redistricting law passed by the Republican-controlled State Legislature in May.

The suit — one of two aimed at overturning the redistricting plan — originally was filed in Denver District Court, but lawyers for the state last week asked that the suit be transferred to U.S. District Court because it contains federal issues. ---

Gates said his party was caught off guard by the attempt to move the case to federal court.

“We were surprised that, before spending any time with Judge (Robert) McGahey, they decided that he wouldn’t be objective,” Gates said. “They are obviously venue shopping — they are shopping for favorable judges.” ---

2. My thoughts exactly.
They better get on guard quickly because these redistricting battles effect the whole US Congress. It's a numbers game and EVERY seat counts.

3. The best Colorado Dem is Ken Salazar.
The rest of them often look like deer in headlights. They're just too nice. They don't know how to play hardball, they are clueless about how to frame the issues. I often think they believe they're involved in a civilized game of badminton.

Michael Merrifield may have promise, though. He's a state representative from Colorado Springs.

6. He won by the skin of his teeth in a recount.
His opponent, Dan Stuart, is a moderate Republican. Merrifield is moderate, but picked up votes from the more liberal west side of Colorado Springs. He was also a popular band and music teacher at a high school in his district. I don't know if he can keep the seat. The Republicans in the legislature are doing everything they can to block his bills, even if they like them. They don't want him to have credit for anything.

The Republican Party is an embarrassment to American politics and is actively working against the democratic process. I think they would like to see the entire process shut down.
