Iraqi abuse report hasn't reached top U.S. brass
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N02671460.htm

WASHINGTON, May 2 (Reuters) - The top U.S. military officer was unable on Sunday to rule out wide scale abuse by U.S. forces of prisoners in Iraq and elsewhere.

Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he had not yet seen an internal Army report, completed more than two months ago that is said to document "sadistic, blatant and wanton criminal abuses" of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. forces, including beatings and sodomy.

Asked how we could be sure that any abuses were not "systemic," Myers said: "I'm not sure of it."

He said the military was investigating throughout the region, including in Iraq and Afghanistan.

2. MEYERS IS AN IDIOT-- and a lap dog

Gen. BLUE SUIT MEYERS puppet boy, US military catamite, appointed by Cheney Caesar in
the year of Our Lord 2001

His quotes “Duh, we are winning” and on the increased violence that flared up this month is "a
symptom of the success that we're having here in Iraq"

And "No my hand is not grabbing at her breast"

Also on the subject of Fallujah "We went in because we had to find the perpetrators and what
we found was a huge rat's nest that is still festering today. It needs to be dealt with,"

18. You could say Westmoreland is an admirer of the unvarnished truth
and the truth is that Meyers is an idiot.

17. Is it just me or ...
Edited on Sun May-02-04 03:49 PM by baldearg
is it for real? Meyers has aged about 20 years since he first arrived to the regime. Meyer looks and acts very wrecked I've noticed; in fact I almost didn't recognize him. War is hell ... :nuke:

3. This is a frequent tactic with these killers. I heard Condi do the same.
And Rummy does it all the time. Don't read the paper, don't watch TV, don't read your own reports so that when people ask you about it you have nothing to say.

I mean, Gen. Myers, COME ON! You go on at least 2 morning talk shows after the 60 MIN II reports Wednesday night, the Sy Hersch article in the New Yorker, and YOUR OWN report that was concluded in February. You haven't read it?

Do you have any plans to read it or are you waiting for December?

4. Why, and just earlier he assured everyone with, and I quote:
Top U.S. military officer Gen. Richard Myers said Sunday there is no widespread pattern of abuse of Iraqi prisoners and that the actions of "just a handful" of U.S. troops at a Baghdad prison have unfairly tainted all American forces.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=542&e=2&u=/ap/20040502...

I guess the idea that the only abuse that occured was the abuse that was documented with videos and photographs in the public domain became a little to hard to swallow.

14. Very interesting thread, saigon.
You and a few others were quite passionate in that fight (I mean on the thread), and I agreed with you. Nice job.

16. Forgiving a human reaction of "denial" would be a uniting act.
There are those who cannot handle "Full Metal Jacket", okay.

Don't get me wrong. A sifting process of fundamental values will occur. Just, please,...don't "sift" out the betrayed or confused or (now) disillusioned,...who had good and whole hearts shit upon.

Please, don't reject people for "being" human,...unless you want to be as disenchanting as those who disenchant you.

Please.

11. Remember Myers is another one who sat on his hands on 9-11
pretending he didn't have a care in the world, until the operation was over and it was too late to prevent the planes from reaching their targets. If you can sit and watch 1000's of your own countrymen die, then it's easy to turn a blind eye, when it's happening to the people you want to destroy anyway.

12. He gave word not to be disturbed
as he met with a Senator (Cleland?) on Capitol Hill. No beeper, no cell phone, and apparently no one with a clue that this might be something to disturb him over.

Oh ho-hum, no big deal. Don't bother me in my meeting because I can't react until all the planes have hit their targets. Ho-hum...
