Voters Find Bush More Compassionate, Compatible, Likeable than Kerry
May 2— George W. Bush has an edge on John Kerry on the personal attributes of compassion, values and likeability, another reason Bush has improved his overall position against Kerry since the Democratic primaries.

Americans, by an eight-point margin, pick Bush over Kerry as "friendly and likeable" and as "caring and compassionate," and by a seven-point margin as someone who "shares my values and beliefs," an ABCNEWS/Washington Post poll finds.

The two are about even (Bush +4, too close for polling tolerances) on another positive attribute, being a "people person," and they're also about evenly matched on two negative attributes — being "cold and distant" and having a "boring personality."

Believe this at your own peril: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/US/bush_kerry_likeability_poll_040502.html

4. An anti-intellectual one
Where speaking clearly and concisely is worth far less than stumbling over simple words, where adapting to changing circumstances is worth less than bulling ahead with something that isn't working because you are incapable of change. It's seen as folksy but decisive.

You know, moron land.

Likable, I can see in a perverted sort of way, but compassionate? He hasn't gone to a soldier's funeral. He doesn't care squat about them or anyone out of work or anyone who can't buy their medicine? WTF is that about?

9. Then Kerry needs to run the footage of Bush referring to Adam Clymer..
.. calling him a "major league asshole". That was at a SCHOOL event during the last campaign. Perhaps just a montage of all the hateful, cruel thing Bush has said in the past four years? Like the horrible things he's said to reporters? How about the "trifecta" joke? Or perhaps looking for the WMD under his fucking couch!

Gore's people allowed him to be portrayed as cold and distant, when in fact he's a much, much nicer person than Bush. Where are Kerry's people? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to beat Bush at his own game. Kerry needs to do the talk shows a lot.. he needs to dress more casually more often, and surprise some people at Little League games... They need to put more stories into the media stressing Kerry's nice personality (Actually, I have no freakin' idea whether Kerry is personable or not... that's pretty bad considering I"m a liberal! Someone isn't doing their job very well!)

....a New York Times reporter? This is a message poll...Kerry has got to come up with a distinct message, that is not simply a reaction to something the Bushies have said. The message has to be simple and plain spoken...Clinton was a master at this.

Edited on Sun May-02-04 07:03 PM by fearnobush
4.5 % error margin is real sketchy, Most real polls are 3.1%

Methodology

This ABCNEWS/Washington Post poll was conducted by telephone April 21-25, 2004, among a random national sample of 1,021 adults. The results have a 4.5-point error margin. TNS of Horsham, Pa.

Kerry has $25 mil of new ads going national this month. So far, it's been all Bush so this really does not scare me at all.

Kerry will start to catch on. People aren't on to Bush yet. There is still a 9/11 bubble around Junior, but it's starting to wear thin.

It's as if the pollsters asked themselves "What poll can we do that Bush will do well in?" It's a sham.

I think that they need to have Kerry show a little sense of humor. I really got behind Clinton when I finally got to see him on the tonight show. Gore there was a moment on the bus that showed he had a great sense of humor. I always prayed for more because most of the time he looked just too controlled.

BU$HIT ALERT!!!
BU$HIT ALERT!!!
BU$HIT ALERT!!!

Don't let it get to you folks, and DO NOT let it discourage anyone you know from voting - tell them about this tactic. The Repukes and their butkissing media use it EVERY ELECTION to try to discourage folks from voting and/or Democratic. DON'T LET THEM do this to ya!!

62. They did the same thing last time
it's part of the propaganda machine. CNN makes like it's
useless to go vote because Bush has it all wrapped up in the
polls and some dummies think it's true and don't bother to
even vote. Then Bush wins.

but if Bush is president again the disapointment first then the shock of incomprehension in France will be tremendous ! The french are so SURE you can't elect Bush twice !!(I know, I know but you see what I mean). :wow: :wow: :wow:
I really fear that the gap between our two countries would take decades to be repeared so the image of USA would be damaged....I really fear a major divorce and a major rise of anti-americanism even among the elites and the intellectuals.

EDIT: And to those who believe that the french and especialy the intellectuals are already anti-america I'd say that I'm talking about something really, really different, something much more about hatred :scared:  :scared:
Today, Bush and the americans are two different things but if Bush is elected again.....

68. He wasn't elected
Edited on Sun May-02-04 11:12 PM by teryang
This needs to be emphasized to Europeans. He was appointed in what amounted to a bloodless coup d'etat. The meaning of this can't be overstated. Then he presides over a contrived national security diaster to conceal his lack of legitimacy a la Machiavelli's Discourses and marches off to a fraudulent and pre-planned war.

Our political system is derailed. Our elections are rigged. That is why a bio warfare defense contractor was allowed to interfere with and completely block election night polling. It would have revealed that several of the 2002 elections were rigged. The covert group behind them is likely the same group that brought the anthrax attacks in 2001. Our government refuses even to investigate these matters or pursue some of the most obvious 911 leads because of what they would show.

It is likely that the same will occur in 2004. The Europeans need to examine their intelligence agencies very carefully to see what extent they or other foreign agencies have been involved in bringing us down this road. Suspect intelligence agencies are Germany, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. I think some of these nations see it as somehow to their advantage for America to go fascist.

On edit: Of course, I forgot England.

Which of these two candidates is more likely to understand a connection between cause and effect?

Which of these two candidates is more likely to flee like a rat during an invasion?

Which of these two candidates is more likely to think about his actions as President?

Which candidate is more likely to try diplomacy before using nuclear weapons?

Which candidate is more likely to use fuzzy math when deciding how much to tax and spend?

Which candidate is more likely to care about the healthcare of your children or loved ones?

69. This is bad!!
In modern history, the man who won the presidency is the one who is perceived to be the most likable. The one exception was Richard Nixon. This is not good if people think that bush is more compassionate and likable. :puke:

70. Obviously,
without knowing how many of those polled were Dems and how many were Repubs, this poll is completely meaningless. In fact, if a higher percentage of those polled are Repubs then the margin between the two, the results are VERY bad for Bush. The widest gap between the two is 8... was there a higher margin then 8 between the number of Dems and the number of Repubs polled? If more Repubs were polled over that 8 point margin, this poll actually spells disaster for Bush as it indicates that Repubs are defecting to Kerry while the Dems are Kerry all the way.

Just more propaganda from a brown-nosing media.

71. A certain amount of internal contradictions in this poll

Bush Kerry
Is a friendly and likeable person 44 36

Sometimes seems cold and distant 39 36

So Bush is both more "friendly and likeable" at the same time that he is more "cold and distant".

I agree with others that this reflects name recognition, and a certain amount of knee jerk religious affiliation.

74. It doesn't MATTER what kind of poll it is!
I keep seeing people say that the polls don't matter. They DO matter. At least to the sheep who believe in them. That's all it will take to sway them one way or another. "Oh, George is more compassionate than John. I'm going to vote for him!"

People don't study the facts. They let others do their thinking for them. It's much easier that way.

Please do NOT dismiss the polls. Don't believe them but don't think that others won't.

87. To cut through the bullshit about likeability and caution
One thing we have to do is constantly remind voters how greed and profits for the wealthy trump every other value in Bush. Portraying him as a money grubbing unrepentant stooge is not hard but we can't depend much on the media to do it. The only place Junior gets any compassionate traction is on the abortion issue. I got a letter in our local paper (actually only part of a letter) which pointed out that all his pro-life talk was out the window when it came down to making money. I talked about Red China's abortion policies and eugenics and how Cheney that week was over there selling them nuclear reactors and how Uncle Prescott was head of the Sino-US Chamber of Commerce. When I personally pointed this out to some pro-life, pro-Bush relatives they actually looked physically sick. We have to get an offense going against the corrupt little stooge.

http://www.abcnews.go.com/service/Help/abcmail_news.html

Ask Dalia how the fuck she can say that her bullshit poll shows "another reason Bush has improved his overall position against Kerry since the Democratic primaries." It's a fucking guess, and it ends up in the lead of an ABC.com story. What an idiot.

These people work for the White House, folks. And the only way we're going to stop them is to hit their pocketbooks. If you're going to threaten to boycott ABC you have to be prepared to really do it.

89. we should have known this all along..get ready for bush/gore redux!..
didn't we learn anything four years ago? why do we keep trying to win with the best "qualified" candidate. we are preaching to the choir. people that care about policies and nuances, and are well informed through objective sources are ALREADY VOTING FOR WHOEVER WE GIVE THEM THAT ISN'T BUSH!!! The swing voters that we need to win over are fundamentally ignorant and do not give a shit about politics, and will look briefly at the two candidates and judge them by appearance, manner, and PERCIEVED honesty, and vote for the the one they would rather have a beer with. This is why we SORELY need Edwards as veep, to even have a chance at winning. He is the only candidate that is superficially more likeable than bush. Bill Clinton was a winner twice against very difficult odds, but it had almost NOTHING to do with his qualifications. He was somebody that women wanted to fuck, and men wanted to hang out with. That will win the swing vote every single time. Kerry, folks, is not that person. This election could have been a landslide, but will be just as close as 2000, because once again, we have a very boring candidate.
