80% of Canadians Loath George Bush... How'd they get so smart?
"More than eight in 10 Canadians harbour a strong dislike for U.S. President George Bush, according to a new poll released, hours before Prime Minister Paul Martin met the U.S. leader on Friday.

Eighty-two percent of people polled by Ipsos-Reid for CTV and The Globe and Mail agreed with the statement that Bush "is not necessarily a friend of Canada and doesn't really know anything when it comes to Canadian issues."

She married a Canadian last Summer and she loves it there. There is a great feeling of sympathy among the people for us and what we endure from our "selected President"

Well, the CBC.

That we have the CBC, and don't have Fox News, is a distinction I cherish.

we need to have those kind of numbers working here where those 8 people can vote and the landslide will be so big that it can't be ignored and set aside. If Bush gets reelected we may all need to think about being Canadians.

9. it's easier to see it from a distance..also they have things like
socialised health care and the country hasn't gone to wrack & ruin because of it..I think in the US some false ideas are drummed into you from birth..the sensible can see through it but too many remain ignorant.
Also I think countries like Canada, the UK , Australia and much of Europe have a healthy disdain for politicians who have to earn respect rather than say the Presidency which is invested with so much un-earned respect when reaching the post often requires large amounts of money more than ability.

11. LOL, it just comes naturally!
Right now I'm reading an excellent book by Michael Adams, a Canadian statistical researcher who writes about the differences in social values between Americans and Canadians. It's extremely interesting and reveals the opposing cultural values that distinguish Canadians and Americans.

It is called Fire and Ice and well worth the read. He owns a company named Environics, and you can visit his website to take the social values test to see where you belong.

www.environics.net

He welcomes participants from Canada and the US, but cautions that you have to "suffer the small humiliation of being classified as a member of a Canadian social values tribe."

Well, right now I can think of worse humiliations, LOL!

Have fun! :)

I tested to be in the connected enthusiasts with a leaning to the autonomous rebels. At my age I know myself pretty well and this test worked. The description of the enthusiests is near 100 percent on target and the rebel traits are mixed in me too.

18. I went skiing in Lake Louise, and it was beautiful but COLD
Edited on Mon May-03-04 10:01 PM by powergirl
You see,my husband and I are from Texas. Down here, we can run outside in our bare feet (like all good Texans do!) to get the newspaper any day of the year. When I was in Alberta, I went outside my hotel room just to get something out of my car (which was plugged into something) and I wasn't wearing a coat (a la Texas, of course). Well, that lasted about 20 seconds. I have never been so cold in my life! All the locals looked at my like I was crazy (which I guess I was) and laughed at me. Canadians are great. I love visiting there. But I put on a coat when it is sixty degrees. Also, when it snows here in Dallas, (about two times per year), the schools close down! I know, that is pitiful!! :7

26. LOL powergirl!
Lake Louise is gorgeous. Did you also visit Banff? One of our more interesting activities is to go to the Banff hot springs in the winter when it's -30C (-22F) and swim outdoors. What a contrast between the water temperature (27C/81F) and the air temperature! Delicious!

When I was living in NYC in 2000, I would always tease the Americans who asked where I was from, and when I replied, "Canada," they'd always say, "Oh, that's where it's always cold!" I'd laugh and say, "No it's not! In the summer, somedays, we even get up to 22 degrees." (That would be Celsius - which is 72 degrees Farenheit. But I didn't tell them, LOL.)

They also used to ask me about plugging in the cars. Wondered if they were electric, LOL.

Ah well, Canada's a great place to live - and a "must see" to visit.

C'mon up!

22. My Dad spends about 6 months of every year in Mexico
and he reports that his friends (Mexicans not US retirees) hate * more then DUers. They mostly can't stand Fox anymore either as he has neither delivered on promises or improved the situation in Mexico. Mostly they laugh at us - BTW these people are professionals who are likely more educated then most of us. And most of them are at least bi-lingual. Mexico teaches English from day one in their schools.

Saginaw is an Ontario Hockey League town even though, alas, we aren't actually in Ontario. We don't have a very good team, so the highlight most nights is grabbing a smoke between periods with the visiting Canadians (almost invariably from such cutting-edge cultural hotspots as Sault Ste. Marie, Owen Sound, Barrie and Peterborough).
They can't stand Bush.
I was a hockey writer for six seasons. I speak fluent Canadian. I know our neighbors to the north (and east and south, too, if you live in Saginaw) -- if you can get Canadians en masse to dislike you, you're seriously doing something wrong.
