Schwarzenegger visits sick troops
Edited on Tue May-04-04 07:53 AM by Kellanved
RAMSTEIN - Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California, visited sick servicemen at a US military hospital in Germany during a stopover Monday and told an audience of 300 airmen they were "true heroes".

The Austrian-born former film star's Boeing 737 made a refuelling stop in Ramstein, the principal US Air Force airfreight base in Europe, and Schwarzenegger, 56, stepped out to give a patriotic speech.

"Thank you for defending our nation," he told the cheering personnel before giving autographs. "You are true heroes".

1. Did Arnold bother to find out ...
...what was making these troops sick? Couldn't be depleted uranium could it? I thought true action heros were those who were wounded in battle. Still, it was nice that he took the time to visit them and to thank them. I haven't heard if Bush or Cheney have done that yet.

2. I'm still trying
to figure out what this has to do with the business of California? Does he think he's running for prez already before they try to change the Constitution?

3. I was suprised that he got a private 737 for it
That sure saves the state of California a lot of money :eyes:.

6. No, they haven't visited any hospital in Germany
Cheney re-upped a couple of AF guys in Aviano, Italy for the cameras and laid a wreath on a WWII US soldier's grave around Vicenza, Italy while his wife touted her book to US military school children at Vicenza and Yongsan Garrison, Seoul. The kids asked if Mrs. Cheney's husband had ever been a soldier~.

If the event doesn't self-promote, the *ies aren't interested.

4. "amputee" and "brain damaged" aren't in Arnie's vocabulary?
Christ, it's not like these soldiers have the flu. If they have made it to Landstuhl, they are more than "sick."

I "look forward to" (to coin Bush's favorite phrase) Arnie's visiting the "tired and weary" at Walter Reed.

5. yeah and he also made a nasty joke about Ted Kennedy
I saw it on TV last night...he said "I lifted 285 pounds last week" (wows from the troops); I lifted Ted Kennedy from his chair (laughter) and there was some other tidbit in there too

8. "Sick"? What, do they have colds?
What's wrong with calling them what they are? Wounded, crippled, amputees, brain damaged, deafened, blinded, disfigured, maimed...

(Sorry for the rant, but that just set me off.)

9. 1st impression: Grope is trolling for war movie plots, starring himself
Did Grope check out the Hummers these sick servicemen got blown to bits in? Betcha his Hummers at home in Cauliphonya have the full complement of doors instead of plywood like our troops have.

Also - what is a "true" hero or a "true" patriot? Are these guys true heroes compared to the other, non-sick heroes who are fakes? True patriots rock compared to fake patriots?

Goes to Israel to dedicate a museum. Makes a stopover with the King of Jordon (?). Then goes to Germany to entertain our wounded. WTF?

11. He is preparing for his next role
as the future Pres. of the U.S.A. Apparently the Governor of CA role is boring. He should get his a** back here and at least make an effort to govern.

20. yes
During the recall he was shown a lot on CNNi. The local Californian Expats were very active as well.

I'm still trying to understand how people could vote for a person, who is seen as personified Realsatire by almost everyone.

17. It's awful!
Also, he speaks in sound bites and cliches. I have never seen him in person, but on TV he looks like a mannequin. Obviously, here in CA we see quite a bit of him on TV.

Another puppet in the making, imo.

Wake me from this nightmare please! :-)

15. Oprah had Mrs. S. on a couple of days ago.
She was billed as THE FIRST LADY, not California's First Lady.

I couldn't bear to watch it for a second and I rarely watch Oprah anymore.

21. The link seems to be expired..
..the video is still working

Nevertheless, no matter what anyones says...

Our troops were very happy to see him. They seem to be uplifted by seeing him, recalling memories of home and stress free times. He praised them for being the real action heroes, when all he's done is play one in the movies. Very humble guy..imo

26. So you're giving the 'big deal' shrug to a molester of women. Disgusting.
For you to diminish the fear and intimidation he put on women in the workplace who he assaulted indicates some real immaturity and/or ignorance of what that did to those women.

Some of them just thought he was an asshole. Which he certainly is. Others were scared out of their minds and worried about ending their careers and starving on the street if they blew the whistle on this pig.

He wasn't overly charming, pal, he fucking well TRAUMITISED many of those women.

And the fact that the film industry covered up for him because he was making them so much money and now he is governor of the fifth largest economy in the world doesn't do anything to promote the humane treatment of women or anyone else for that matter.

Your dismissiveness is fucking neanderthal. Don't skin your knuckles as they drag, ok?
