UNITED NATIONS: A UN human rights investigator called on Monday for an independent probe into the impact on civilians of the US military’s month-long siege of Fallujah.

While reliable information was difficult to obtain, there were credible claims that US-led forces in Iraq “have been guilty of serious breaches of international humanitarian and human rights law in Fallujah in recent weeks,” UN special rapporteur Paul Hunt said.

According to some reports, 90 percent of an estimated 750 deaths in the city of 300,000 during the siege were non-combatants, Hunt said in a printed statement.

Now that Fallujah is open to the "outside world" I expect a wee bit of a mess to be unveiled.

Not sure about in the US, but I've seen quite a few rather disturbing video clips up here on our CBC and the BBC in the last 24 hours.
