Hostettler's attorney enters innocent plea on gun charge

An Indiana congressman did not appear in court Tuesday to answer to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed deadly weapon into Louisville's main airport.

Chief District Judge Donald E. Armstrong Jr. told Schuler that Hostettler cannot possess a firearm in Kentucky while the case is pending.

The county attorney's office generally recommends two days in jail or 14 days of home incarceration for people convicted of the same offense, said Karl Price, the lead prosecutor in Hostettler's case.

However, in similar cases in state court in which weapons were seized at Louisville's main airport, offenders who pleaded guilty generally were given probation but no jail time. They forfeited the weapons and agreed not to possess firearms for an assigned period.
