(Canadian) Conservatives prepare for election win - Globe and Mail
http://www.globeandmail.ca/servlet/story/RTGAM.20040505.wharper0405/BNStory/National/

Although the federal election has yet to be called, the Opposition Conservative Party is already preparing itself for an election win and establishing a transition team.

(snip)

John Reynolds, the party's campaign co-chairman, predicts that — despite worrying polling numbers in Quebec and Ontario — the party will win many ridings. "Sixty seats is something that is quite do-able for us," Mr. Reynolds said.

(snip)

"Our leader, he is somebody who is clearly a mainstream Canadian, moderate on issues," Conservative MP Monte Solberg told reporters outside the caucus meeting on Wednesday.

-These guys are hilarious. The deckchairs on the Titanic are being rearranged as we speak.

1. Are they insane? Do they think Canadians can't see
what the hell happened here when the conservatives got control? My god.
Mr. Harper said talks on how to take over government are under way, including: ”Deciding on the structure of cabinet, decision-making structure in relation to Parliament, of cabinet decisions, senior staffing in the Prime Minister's Office in relation to civil service, those are the kinds of issues we are discussing.”
Wonders never cease.

4. Harper's campaign is beginning to reek of desperation.
All this, and they're at 23% in the polls! I don't want to jinx anything, but the chances of the NDP being the official opposition increase on a daily basis.

9. Heheheh
What a card, that John Reynolds.

John Reynolds, the party's campaign co-chairman, predicts that — despite worrying polling numbers in Quebec and Ontario — the party will win many ridings. "Sixty seats is something that is quite do-able for us," Mr. Reynolds said.

They might win 60 in total. No fecking chance for 60 in Ontario and Quebec.

10. Reynolds will have quite enough trouble keeping his own seat
to think about Quebec or Ontario.

11. This could only happen through the greatest electoral fraud in history
There are no words in the English language equal to the task of describing how unlikely a Conservative win is.

18. Give Harper a few more weeks and you can start knocking down the CPC
Otherwise, I think you're on the money there, MB.

20. Looking forward to that.
Also anticipating ratcheting up the NDP total. The debates should be good for us.

Even at current poll numbers, I think we'll be picking up 25 new seats in BC and Ontario.

21. BC looks FANTASTIC.
We'll likely take-
Van Island North,
Both Nanaimo seats,
Victoria,
Van Kingsway,
New West-Burnaby
New West-Coquitlam
Port Coquitlam-Westwood-Port Moody
Kamloops
Skeena
Burnaby-Douglas
Vancouver East

There you go. Eleven. A conservative estimate.

14. and they call me delusional
They must have a new meaning for "moderate" that doesn't appear in my dictionary.

Harper is a Freeper-wannabe.

In case you missed it, former Prime Minister Joe Clark (of the defunct Progressive Conservative party) is recommending people vote for the Liberals rather than have anything to do with Harper.

US politics sucks.

Canadian politics just makes you shake your head and wonder :wtf:

22. Canada no better
In yrs past the automatic choice for a liberal coalition partner would have been the NDP.

Now that Martin/Chrétien has taken the libs center right. The choice of coalition partner now seems less clear

If the traditional center left liberal voters reject Paul Martin’s aggressive center right economics by voting ndp, I’m convinced that he will turn to Harper to form a coalition government.

His spiteful attitude toward Chrétien loyalists and big business ties lead me to this conclusion.

“You lefties force me to form a coalition government well fuk you I will!!”

All this media hype about Harpers moderation is designed to soften the blow.

Americans take hart Canada was the victim of a coup as well and we also have an unelected leader.

23. If he just fails to win a majority, I expect Martin
will avoid a formal coalition and try counting on support from at least one of the three opposition parties at any given time. If he plays it smart, that could work for a couple of years.

"Canada was the victim of a coup as well and we also have an unelected leader." True!
