Presidential advisor Karen Hughes, in Atlanta on Tuesday promoting her book “Ten Minutes to Normal,” confronted critics who say she equates abortion rights advocates, who marched in Washington D.C. last month, with terrorists.

Another woman in the audience asked, “As a pro-choice female, do you consider me a terrorist?”

“Absolutely not,” Hughes replied. “And I said nothing of the kind and did not make that comparison.”

“What I did say and what I believe is that September 11 was a reminder to all of us of the very precious nature of human life,” she added. “Surely, we can agree that we all ought to join together and work on ways to reduce the number of abortions in America, such as promoting adoption.”

...cause there are plenty of children who need adopted but they aren't white or they have medical problems that basically make these kids "undesirable" in the adoptive world.

I agree on some points, but we have a multi-racial family. And my son has serious health problems...so not everyone who adopts is looking for a white infant. :)

but i think most white couples want a WHITE infant.

I've noticed from polls and news that the states who are the most anti-abortion have a very high number of minority children living in foster care. It's usually one of those Guns and Jesus types who will say they are opposed to abortion and promote adoption - but they won't adopt. I am a family law attorney and I've handled a lot of adoptions and I've noticed that mixed race families work out fabulously. The kids don't care, they just want to be loved. So far, I've been able to raise my three kids with children of many races. Kids aren't inherently prejudiced - they learn that crap from parents/family members, etc. But I think it is wonderful that you adopted. God Bless. O8)

Once again in a statement, Hughs has mentioned both 9/11 and abortion. She'll claim she's not making the connection/assertion and then immediately do it again. She's got to be mentally deranged.

They all do it. They take a stand on something and then immediately contradict themselves in the same setting. They either do it on purpose and figure that people are to stupid to pick-up on their double speak, or their talking points are so nuanced that they don't even know what hell their talking about. I sometimes wonder if we have outstripped the usefulness of the English language, or spoken dialog at all for that matter.

I noticed when they showed her walking next to chimpy that her face, neck and hands are bigger than his. She really has a manly shape - wide shoulders, big bones in face. Picture her as a man before the hormones and makeup! It could have been??!!?!

She knows damn well what she said and exactly how people would take it. If she is sincere in her surprize that people would misunderstand her she should apologize for creating such a horrible misunderstanding. We didn't create it she did. We do value life especially that of mothers and their right to choose their life's paths. We also value the lives of Iraqi children and their mothers too. Cluster bombs have a tendency not to do that and we all know who loves to use cluster bombs.

The obvious implication in that statement is that if you aren't pro-life, as she see it, then you are just as bad as a member of the "terror network we fight".

Tell that to the thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians and Aghanis we blew to bits in retaliation for 9/11. We took at least 4 for every 1 they took from us.

Talk about the prescious nature of human life to the thousands of children who suffer and die because the current Republican philosophy is to allow wealth to "trickle" down to them.

Tell that to the thousands who die every day in the world while we turn a blind eye because their country is not important to our survival.

Karen Hughes, you can take your prescious life and shove it.

So, by Bushco's reasoning isn't the "war against terrorism" really in support of freedom of choice? I am sure Ossama (or whoever did it) doesn't want to allow abortion rights either. So, Karen Hughes's argument doesn't hold up either way.

Undeniably alive and kicking young people sent to the slaughter in a reckless resource grab and their victims tortured while at the same time the people who sent them raise holy hell about abortion.

If Karen really cared about life and children she would understand this report.

If she'd at least support adoptions in more than idle words she might have a shred of credibility.
