WASHINGTON—President George W. Bush, the credibility of his occupation force in tatters, took to Arab airwaves yesterday in an extraordinary attempt to stem growing outrage over the abuse of detainees in a Baghdad prison.

Jawad al-Ananai, a former Jordanian foreign minister; said Bush should have apologized to the Iraqi people.

"This is not going to wash with the Arab audience," he said.

"The damage is done," said Palestinian Reem Hosaris. "Iraqis lost confidence in the big ideas of American democracy and freedom. Regardless of what he said, they have seen the opposite of what they were promised."

Only angry at the PR problem it poses for his war.

to apologizing for such egregious behavior on the part of the "few" who perpetrated this crime. Why the lack of civility and common manners. Where is the weakness in saying "On behalf of the American people I apologize. We ask the forgiveness of the Iraqi people and the detainees who suffered this awful abuse." I really do not get it.

Was wrong.... and we know Bush & Co are not capable of that. Although in this case, it seems the Co. part may be, but Bush himself cannot. He cannot admit weakness. He cannot think of anything he's done wrong; likewise, he cannot admit that people under him were wrong, either, apparently. I agree, that it would have been simple to say what you said above.... but it did not happen, and many will suffer the consequences, unfortunately. :(

Actually, it's probably best he doesn't because it would be just another lie anyway. He's not sorry. He could not care less.

Next week the torture spin will be reduced to the 'alleged belittlement' of the detainees.
The Nazi's will never apologize

accept responsibility for his actions and the actions of his cabinet. He has't criticized Rumsfeld in private or in public. What a crock. That's eyewash. He doesn't give a damn and he's totally uninformed about the American people, Iraqi and the world. He should leave.
