Centrist Democratic group notes Arizona's growing clout
The Associated Press
PHOENIX - The Democratic Leadership Council, a centrist group that helped Bill Clinton become president in 1992, will turn its attention to the West on Friday when its convention begins in Arizona.
For the first time in its history, the group will hold its annual meeting in a state west of the Mississippi River.
Politicians at the two-day convention will discuss political strategy and growth-oriented ideas that they hope will influence the Democratic Party's presidential platform, organizers said.
The group advocates strong national security, a multilateral approach to international affairs, fiscal discipline and an economy that provides opportunities to all Americans.
