COPENHAGEN, Denmark - A Danish soldier on duty in Iraq was reprimanded for using his rifle to push an Iraqi who made an obscene gesture, the army said Thursday.
The sergeant, who was not identified in line with Danish privacy policy, was sanctioned for the Feb. 15 incident after he and other soldiers were searching a house in the Danish sector in southern Iraq. The Army Operational Command gave no further details.
A Danish military policeman saw how the sergeant used his rifle to push away the Iraqi man and filed a complaint with his superiors.
Denmark's army said it considered the case "a serious matter and will not accept that soldiers show any offending attitude toward other people," Army Operational Command said.
