'A world disgrace as serious as apartheid' - SA Aids
South Africa's Aids pandemic had become a world disgrace as serious as apartheid, Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town Njongonkulu Ndungane said on Tuesday.

"The fact that 600 people are dying daily is a serious indictment on our elected government and leaves the impression that it doesn't care whether we live or die," he told journalists in Cape Town.

He was commenting on the Medicines Control Council's recent threat to withdraw registration of the anti-retroviral drug Nevirapine for use in the prevention of mother-to-child-transmission of HIV.

The American GOP has part of this sin for it's 'Just Say No' INSANE policy.

Who's committed more sins, the GOP for sending millions of people to it's 'Just Die And Say Nothing' policy or Saddam's sons and grandson?

1. Nevirapine can save 2 200 babies a day - SA
South Africa, with the highest rate of Aids infected babies in the world, is the only country -- of 72 using nevirapine -- to consider delisting the drug which is used to prevent HIV in infants.

"We need to increase access," Professor James McIntyre, head of the Perinatal HIV Research Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital in Soweto, told a packed special plenary at the Durban Aids Conference on Wednesday.

"Around 2 200 infants per day are estimated to be infected as a result of mother-to-child transmission in South Africa. Yet only three percent of HIV infected women in Africa access these programmes."
