New HIV case in US porn industry

A US pornographic film actress is the fifth person to test positive for the HIV virus in an outbreak which has halted most work in the industry.

The new case involves an industry veteran, one of up to 14 people believed to have been infected during on-camera sex with a male actor.

He is thought to have been infected while working in Brazil.

What good is once a month HIV testing? Do these people know how long it takes for HIV to show up in your blood?

WARNING: this link is a link to AVN.com. This is a site run by the porn industry. It has adult ads, graphics and popups. However, I believe they would know best what is their product and what is not. Their article covers the origin of the videos and stills and give links to the originators site. (I did not and would not advise opening the individual sites.)

4. What's amazing to me is how infectious this was
I recall reading statistics some time ago saying that the chance of acquiring HIV infection through one particular act of heterosexual sex was pretty low. Now we find out that one actor, who had sex with perhaps twenty or thirty actresses in a span of a few weeks, has already infected three of them. This certainly makes heterosexual HIV look a lot more infectious than we were previously led to believe.

7. yes, but porn sex is not exactly gentle
There's probably a lot of torn tissue -- I can't find the LA Weekly article I read last week, but let's just say there was a reference to a sexual practice that I had never heard of (and hope to never hear of again) that would be considered 'high risk'

5. This may become a "big" story...
...just the thing to have another sex story shove the naked prisoners story off the front page...you'll know when one of the networks has some unnamed "ïndustry insider" talking in shadows on the nightly news.

6. american porn industry actually had a pretty good record
No cases of HIV acquired through movie-making in the last 5 years. Within the U.S., porn filmmakers were pretty strict about frequent testing. The problem was that that particular actor went for a shoot outside the country.

I'm an aficionado of the Showtime reality show, "Family Business" about a family that works in the adult film industry. It's a pretty interesting look at the biz -- and funny, too!
