Reuters: Soldiers Back in U.S. Tell of More Iraqi Abuse
Edited on Thu May-06-04 10:09 PM by FlashHarry
More "isolated" incidents from a few "bad apples?"

<snip>
ANTIOCH, California (Reuters) - Three U.S. military policemen who served at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison said on Thursday they had witnessed unreported cases of prisoner abuse and that the practice against Iraqis was commonplace.

"It is a common thing to abuse prisoners," said Sgt. Mike Sindar, 25, a National Guardsman with the 870th Military Police Company based in the San Francisco Bay area. "I saw beatings all the time." (emphasis mine)

"A lot of people had so much pent-up anger, so much aggression."

Spectators at the lynching of Jesse Washington, one man raised for a better view.

IT'S MORE THAN THAT--IT IS

the psyche of a Bully finally realizing the reality of getting your jollies by abusing your victim, will go unpunished.

11. they gave U.S. guards a week's notice before inspecting their possessions"

.

that's not what I'd call trying to fix anything, when they are warned of inspections!

It only proves to me that the abuses were condone, if not ordered from way on up.

That still is no excuse for people abusing people, stress or no stress, orders or no orders.

Inhumane acts are inhumane acts, and those that order, condoned or effect the acts are all culpable.

Expect more stories to emerge for years to come. The only way the US can save their ass from more charges and world disgust is to get out now. But the US is to stubborn and arrogant. The Officials in the WH and the Pentagon think their split-tongued rhetoric will fool the world. They will fool a considerable amount of US citizens, but not the world. the world has learned not to pay a whole lot of attention to US media if they are searching for the truth.

From the article:

When military investigators were looking into abuses several months ago, they gave U.S. guards a week's notice before inspecting their possessions, several soldiers said.

"That shows you how lax they are about discipline. 'We are going to look for contraband in here, so hint, hint, get rid of the stuff,' that's the way things work in the Guard," Leal said.

They tell people possession of certain things are not allowed and give them a chance to get rid of it? What's the problem?

20. Well,
a whole week gives them plenty of time to clean up the blood and pacify the prisoners into quietude during the inspection. Also, I somehow doubt the inspectors were using Luminol over there....

Some say investigators went out of their way to keep the allegations under wraps. When military investigators were looking into abuses several months ago, they gave U.S. guards a week's notice before inspecting their possessions, several soldiers said.

Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine I would be reading this kind of stuff. Who could ever imagine that I would gravitat to a place called the DU, because I was so pissed that I could not find any answers to the insanity that I was witnessing.

Man, how your illusions can be shattered.

25. Should have posted more info - happened June 2003
.
.
.

So I figure this has been SOP since they laid one boot on Iraqi soil.

From your link

Although guards beat and choked Hatab and although he died in their custody, Col. William Gallo, the investigating officer, said he had not seen evidence to substantiate charges of negligent homicide against two Marines in the case: Maj. Clarke Paulus and Lance Cpl. Christian Hernandez.

/snip/

The Marines are facing charges arising from the death June 5 of Hatab, a ranking member of Saddam Hussein's Baath Party, while he was at Camp White Horse near Nasiriyah, Iraq.

/snip/

In Hatab's case, Roy said the Iraqi might have received more abuse because he was a difficult prisoner and because he was linked to the ambush on the Army's 507th Maintenance Battalion. It was during that ambush that Jessica Lynch was taken prisoner.
___________________________________________________________

Well, THAT's why we never heard much about it

The press were doing the Jessica hostage/rescue/hero thing!

Sure gives one the idea this has been commonplace since day one.

Like I said

Standard Operating Procedure

Now we know.

(sigh)

I'm sure the Iraqi POW's (referred by to by the troops as RAGHEADS) appreciated your following of the UCMJ and the Geneva convention.

26. IT'S NOW LEAKING OUT-- ANAL RAPE OF CHILDREN
Rumsfeld did not describe the photos, but U.S. military officials told NBC News that the unreleased images showed U.S. soldiers severely beating an Iraqi prisoner nearly to death, having sex with a female Iraqi female prisoner and “acting inappropriately with a dead body.” The officials said there was also a videotape, apparently shot by U.S. personnel, showing Iraqi guards raping young boys.
